Yuletide: Anambra Govt Warns Against Burning Of Tyres On Tarred Roads

The attention of Anambra State Government has been drawn to the indiscriminate burning of tyres on the tarred roads across the state.

In view of this, the state government, in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Dr Law Mefoh, said it is dissatisfied with this move by Ndi Anambra and their visitors for wasting the huge resources it expended to provide access roads to its citizenry.

The statement warned that going forward, anyone caught burning tyres or supporting the act of burning tyres on the road will face the full wrath of the law.

It urged Ndi Anambra to enjoy their celebration without causing harm to either themselves or the government.

While wishing all a merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year, the state government urged all to remember that together, we can achieve a green and liveable state.

Also, the Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Felix Odimegwu in a statement, frowned at the act, calling on ndi Anambra
to protect and manage public infrastructures.

“We observed with dismay that despite our warnings on the disintegrating and damaging effects of burning tyres on our roads, few unscrupulous individuals still did same yesterday night being eve of Christmas.

“We will not hesitate to prosecute any one caught doing so from henceforth. We must endeavour as good citizens to protect and manage our public infrastructures for the common good of all.

“The Government spends billions of money to construct these roads. Moreso the cost of maintaining the roads are also quite huge. Hence, it will be foolhardy for us to engage in actions/activities that contribute to the disintegration and destruction of the roads, as burning of Tyres on the roads would do.

“Ndi Anambra are invited to join the government in spreading this information and go further towards stopping anyone who has intentions of burning tyres on the roads. Environmental protection and sustainability is everyone’s business.
