…Flags Off Operation Zero Road Traffic
Ahead of the yuletide season, the Anambra Road Traffic Management Agency (ARTMA) has flagged off Operation Zero Road Traffic across the state to secure smooth movement
As part of the festive operations, the agency will strictly enforce speed limits on newly completed roads, with vehicles violating traffic rules to be impounded for seven days without fines.
ARTMA called on residents, transport operators, and traders to support the operation, assuring that a traffic-free festive season is achievable with collective cooperation, further projecting Anambra as an organized and progressive state.
ARTMA Managing Director, Engr. Emeka Okonkwo, said the initiative targets congestion control and strengthened road enforcement, building on the road infrastructure improvements of the Governor Chukwuma Soludo administration.
Angel Network News (ANN) reports that while speaking at the flag-off, the ARTMA boss maintained that the agency is intensifying sensitization of commercial drivers, tricycle operators, and roadside traders.
Okonkwo noted that commercial vehicles will be directed to approved parks while traders blocking roads will be moved into designated markets to keep major routes free. He added that ARTMA is partnering with local governments, especially in Anambra North, to ease enforcement and ensure full compliance.
The MD explained that the aim is to correct reckless driving and not to generate revenue.
ARTMA also warned that any of its staff found intimidating motorists or seizing vehicles unjustly will be sanctioned, while ad-hoc personnel without proper uniforms will face immediate dismissal, and all officers are expected to maintain neat appearances as part of professional conduct.

Some ad-hoc personnel, including Mr. Anthony Arinze and Mr. Peter Ohakama, commended the state government for re-kitting them, saying the new uniforms would improve their dignity on the job and encourage adherence to agency rules.
