Anambra State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Mrs Esther Onyekesi, has charged fathers to always live up to expectations as the pillars of their various families.
Speaking on the 2026 International Fathers’ Day celebration, Mrs Onyekesi regretted that many fathers are no longer devoting adequate time to their families, which she said is the major reason many children are not receiving the balanced upbringing they should get from both their father and mother, and called on fathers to rise to the occasion.
According to Commissioner Onyekesi, fathers should see their position as a call to greater responsibility, especially as it concerns taking full charge of their families, with emphasis on providing for the family, staying and praying together with them, as well as serving as counsellors and pastors within the family.
Mrs Onyekesi, who regretted the increase in domestic violence in society, disclosed that the Anambra State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare will soon engage stakeholders on ways to reduce the incidence of domestic violence, which she noted is seriously undermining the sanctity of the marriage institution.
She called on the public to always speak out and report to the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare whenever they notice any form of domestic violence, child labour, or child abuse for necessary action.
Angel Network News (ANN) reports that
International Fathers’ Day is commemorated annually to celebrate fathers and father figures, as well as to draw attention to their roles in the family and society.
