The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has declared Peter Obi as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.
The party made the announcement at a Special National Convention in Abuja on Saturday following the conclusion of its presidential primary conducted across the country.
Obi arrived at the convention venue alongside NDC National Chairman Seriake Dickson and former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso.
Obi also named former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election.
The announcement followed the NDC’s presidential primary, where Obi emerged as the party’s flagbearer.
Both Obi and Kwankwaso recently defected to the NDC from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing internal divisions and ongoing court cases within the latter party.
The development positions Obi, who ran for president in 2023 under the Labour Party banner, as the standard-bearer of another opposition platform as Nigeria’s political landscape continues to realign ahead of the next polls.
