* Anambra State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Mrs. Ify Obinabo has empowered Miss Ifeoma Chukwu, a native of Otolo Nnewi, financially. ANN reports that Miss Chukwu was one of the beggars caught during the raid which took place in Awka the state capital last Wednesday.

* Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has congratulated illustrious sons and daughters of the state who were conferred with different categories of national awards by the federal government. ANN reports that they were nominated alongside over three hundred other outstanding patriotic Nigerians.
Among those honoured were former Commonwealth Secretary General, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, GCON, former Minister for Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, CON and Senator representing Anambra Central at the National Assembly, Uche Ekwunife, CON, former Minister for Environment, Sharon Ikeazor, CON.

* Children with cleft deformities in Anambra State will now have the chance of getting free corrective surgeries through a partnership between the state government and Smile Train foundation.The pact was reached when representatives of Smile Train paid a courtesy visit on the wife of the Governor of Anambra State, Dr Nonye Soludo at the Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia recently.

* Supporters and friends of the Labour Party Presidential candidate at the just concluded general elections, former Governor Peter Obi, have held an interdenominational service, to seek God’s intervention on the expected ruling on the case before the Presidential Elections Petitions Tribunal where he is questioning the outcome of the election. The prayer session which had in attendance, members of the Labour Party, friends and well-wishers of former Governor Obi was organized by the member elect for the federal constituency , Honourable George Ozodinobi at Nimo in Njikoka Local Government Area recently.

* Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Education has charged the management of Post Primary Schools Service Commission, (PPSSC), to always keep their financial records straight to encourage accountability and transparency. ANN reports that the Committee gave the charged when it embarked on oversight visit at Headquarters of the Commission in Awka, recently.

* The Speaker Anambra State House of Assembly, Right Honourable Uche Okafor has called on National and State legislatures to enact laws that will guarantee adequate protection and training of children. Okafor who spoke in Awka recently also called for the reintroduction of moral instruction in the education curriculum to enable school children to achieve both academic excellence and sound morals.

* Following zero tolerance to all forms of child abuse, sexual molestations against minors and rape related cases by the wife of the Governor of Anambra state Dr. Mrs. Nonye Soludo, the Ministry of Women Affairs, Children and Social Welfare has declared unending war against all rapists and child molesters. This was the Crux of the matter during an interview recently with the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Children and Social Welfare, Hon. Ifeyinwa Obinabo, who disclosed that government was out to protect children from all human predators in the society especially minors and adolescent girls who are most vulnerable to the wiles of the predators.

* The Health Committee of the Anambra State House of Assembly has expressed deep concern over what it sees as shoddy jobs being executed by contractors at Umueri, Enugwu-Ukwu and Ekwulobia general hospitals. The Committee upon its oversight duties to the hospitals recently, discovered that the quality of work at the sites does not reflect the 30% of the contract sum Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo paid the contractors.

* The Anglican Bishop of Aguata Diocese, Rt Rev. Samuel Ezeofor has regretted that Nigeria’s constitutional democracy has been greatly undermined, and tasked the Judiciary to live up to its reputation as the last hope of the common man.

Ezeofor was speaking while presenting his Charge to delegates in Igboukwu recently.

* About two hundred and fifty thousand Ndi Anambra are to be gainfully empowered within the next nine months by Hope for Nigeria Initiative. The National Coordinator, Hope for Nigeria Initiative, Mr. Kenny Solaye disclosed this at the inauguration of the Anambra State chapter of the organization in Awka recently.

* Stakeholders in the agriculture and agro-financing sectors have extolled strategic action plans of Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, aimed at ensuring food security and improved livelihoods. Speaking during this year’s ‘National Action And Communication Plan’ for implementation of ‘Food Systems Transformation Pathways’ for states in Southern part of Nigeria, in Awka recently, the convener, Dr. Sanjo Faniran, said the Soludo administration has proved its readiness to key into the Federal Government’s effort to bring food security to the citizens
