ANAMBRA: NPC Reaveals Reasons Over Postponement Of 2023 Census

The Federal Commissioner representing Ananmbra State in the National Population Commissio Mr. Chidi Ezeoke have listed progress made so far for the success of the exercise before it was suspended.

Ezeoke while speaking in a one-day breakfast meeting with media executives over the postponement of 2023 population and housing census said the postponement was in order for the new administration to oversee the exercise because of its importance to economic planning and national development, adding that the commission is ready whenever the Federal Government okays it.

He thanked successive Anambra State Governments for the supports given to the success of the exercise in the state, urging citizens to ready themselves for the event.

Contributing, the Ananmbra State Director of NPC, Mr. Joachin Ulasi, who explained that preparations for the exercise started as far back as 2014, noted that the 21 LGAs in Anambra State had been properly demarcated for the success of the exercise, and thanked ABS and other media establishments for their supports so far.

Head of Technical, NPC, Mrs Chinyere Mmaduagwuna, reminded all that the exercise is fully digitalized, and that indigenously produced softwares will be used for its conduct to enable the commission to generate reliable data for development planning in Nigeria and Anambra State in particular.

In his remarks, the Anambra State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Paul Nwosu, said NPC and the state government has done much to sensitize citizens for the exercise, and expressed hope that when eventually conducted, it will meet expectations of Nigerians as regards using reliable data for sustainable national development.

Anambra State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Dr. Odogwu Emeka Odogwu and other media executives and practitioners at the event called for proper use of the media and local announcers in sensitizing citizens on the importance of the exercise, as well as ensuring safety of field workers.

On his part, the Managing Director of Anambra Broadcasting Service, ABS, Sir Chido Obidiegwu, represented by the Director of News and Current Affairs of ABS, Mr. Gab Okpalaeze, said ABS will continue to give necessary support to the success of the exercise, describing national population and housing census as very important in generating data for other national assignments such as election.
