* Anambra State has been named one of the 15 states in Nigeria to benefit from Canada’s Global Initiative for Vaccine Equity (CanGIVE) Grant to Nigeria. ANN gatheted that the grant will focus on community engagement, within the context of addressing inequities in service delivery and disparities in gender at sub-national geographical locations.

* Anambra State House of Assembly has called on Governor Chukwuma Soludo to direct the Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of Anambra State to decongest Onitsha, Awka and Ekwulobia correctional centers through speedy procecution of inmates cases on awaiting trial. Chief sponsor of the motion, Hon. Fredrick Chigozie Ezenwa the member representing Onitsha South one constituency, stated that there are large population of ndi Anambra who are languishing in the Correctional Centres located at Onitsha, Awka and Ekwulobia of Anambra State.

* The Transition Committee Chairman of Idemili South Local Government Area, Hon. Mrs Amaka Obi has commended Seaman group for building Agro Industry at Nnobi in Idemili South local government area. Hon. Obi during her visit to the industry, stated that Seaman group are raising the level of industrialization in Anambra State and have created employenment to youths.

* Anambra State government has condemned the dehumanising act where the President General (PG) of Ifitedunu in Dunukofia Council Areas Chief Uchenna Nwoye Oragwuncha was beat up and humiliated.

The Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Mr. Tony-Collins Nwabunwanne while reacting over the unfortunate incident, stressed that the Soludo-led administration has zero-tolerance to violence, unruliness and calumny against any Anambra indigene, advocating that in case of any issues, due process should be followed, especially as it concerns community affairs.

* Josephine Achebe, a beneficiary of the One Youth, Two Skills Scheme in Anambra State, has applauded Governor Soludo for the initiative. Achebe, who learnt fashion and designing during the six-month program, said the training was an amazing experience that greatly improved her knowledge of fashion. Achebe said she is confident that she will be among the top fashion designers in Awka in the next five years. She urged the government to fulfill its promise to empower the beneficiaries financially so that they can start their own businesses.

* The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC (EEDC) has notified its customers that by 24th November 2024, all prepaid meters in its network will cease to accept credit tokens, unless they are upgraded. This was disclosed by the company’s Head of Corporate Affairs ,Mr Emeka Eze in a statement. This is as a result of a software upgrade which will be affecting all Standard Transfer Specification (STS) compliant prepaid meters across the globe.

* Anambra State House of Assembly has urged Governor Chukwuma Soludo to dirrect the commissioner for local government, chieftancy and town union matters to investigate the break down of law and order happening in Ifitedunu with the intent to persucute the perpetrators of this act in line with the vision of making Anambra a prosperable and livably homeland.
The member representing Dunukofia Constituency Hon. Chuks Azotani at Plenary on Thursday moved a motion of public importance over the dehumanising act where the President General (PG) of Ifitedunu in Dunukofia Council Areas Chief Uchenna Nwoye Oragwuncha was beat up and humiliated.

* The proprietor of Best Aluminum, Chief Pius Nweke, has regained his freedom. ANN recalled that a Federal High Court, Awka presided over by Justice Nnamdi Dimgba had on 14th June 2023 sentenced Chief Pius Nweke to ten years imprisonment with an option of N30m fine for the offence of unlawful possession of a firearm and another three months imprisonment without option of fine for the offence of unlawful possession of ammunition which sentencing was preceded by an earlier conviction of Chief Pius Nweke.

* Police authorities in Anambra State have spoken on the rumours that kidnapped native doctor, Chinedu Nwangwu, also known as Akwa Okuko Tiwaraki has been released. The spokesperson of Anambra State Police Command, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga sai that there is no news of the return of the native doctor yet.

* Some students of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Anambra State, are currently in a pensive mood due to their inability to pay their school fees before the July 23rd deadline set by the university’s management, under the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Charles Okechukwu Esimone. some of the students who could not meet the deadline are worried about what they perceive as the insensitivity of the school management to the current economic reality in Nigeria.
