Anambra State Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Mr. Tony-Collins Nwabunwanne has charged stakeholders in Nteje, a community in Oyi local government area, to deliberate on the Igweship tussle which has divided their community and resolve the matter amicably.
Nwabunwanne gave the charge when some stakeholders from the community visited him in his office at Government House, Awka the state capital.
He reminded them that they were brothers hence the need for them to embrace peace for posterity of their people and made them to understand that war does no good to anyone.
Commissioner Nwabunwanne who took time to listen to the parties involved made them to understand that since the matter is in Supreme court, that there is need for them to look critically on what the laws and constitutions of Igweship of Nteje stipulated and come up with solution on how to move forward.
Nwabunwanne maintained that the state government will do everything in its power to
restore lasting peace in the community.
The Commissioner assured them that it is the right of Ndi Nteje to choose who will rule them stressing that the present administration will not impose traditional rulers on any Community.
In their separate speeches, some of the stakeholders went down memory lane on how the Igweship tussle started in the community, explaining that they have three quarters in Nteje and that their traditional stool is rotational.
They said that previous administrations in the state recognized late Igwe Rowland Odegbo even under controversy, adding that after his demise, Ikenga and Ifite quarters have been dragging the Igweship right, which brought misunderstanding that led to state government’s intervention.
The stakeholders include Sir Paul Nnedi, Chief Benjamin Muofuanya, Chief Williams Igboanua, Chief jideofor Okuh, Chief Paulinus Obichukwu, Chief Benneth Chinweze, Barrister Amasiam and chief Chris Omokwu among others.
Responding, the President General of Nteje town, Dr Nnamdi Ilodiuba promised to take his people home to find lasting Solution to the Igweship tussle and return with feedback and commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo, Commissioner Nwabunwanne and the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Barrister Pauline Nwandu for their efforts in ensuring peace and stability in Nteje Community.
