Anambra Assembly Calls On Indigenes In Public, Private Sectors To Come Back Home And Invest

The Anambra State House of Assembly calls on Anambra indigenes in Private and Public sectors as well as the diaspora to join hands with the Government of Prof. Chukwuma Soludo in the development of communities in Anambra State.

Chief sponsors of the motion Hon. Anthony Muobike while leading the motion on Thursday at plenary, stated that community development programs will usually involve principles such as community participation, ownership and involvement, empowerment, equal access and opportunities, networking, learning and advocacy among others.

According to Hon. Muobike who is the member representing Aguata two constituency “The Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has proposed the Public Community Private Partnership (PCPP) as a model that will address development needs in Anambra state, such being imperative as the resources available to the government is insufficient for the required developmental work.

“Fast-developing economies provide the government with 22% income or higher and that current statistics suggest that 99.8% of the estimated N5.5 trillion in annual revenue for Anambra state is in private hands leaving the state with a paltry 0.2%.

“Bringing the private and public sector together as collaborators in community development will offer communities a choice in determining the progress and direction of a development in their immediate communities through participation and involvement and also as ‘ improve the local economy through empowerment, equal access and ownership of opportunities.

“Anambra is probably one of the states in Nigeria with the least tax revenue with IGR projection for 2023 at a mere 4.4 % in comparison with the IGR of Lagos State which is 1.1tn naira for the same period.

“This poor revenue resources will drastically limit the ability of the administration of Anambra state to deliver better social services to the people of the state – while protecting lives and properties of indigenes and residents

” The involvement of the private sector in the development of communities will unleash the immense reserve of economic, technological and human resources in the hands of the private sector into the development of these communities thereby leaptrogging, the process of attaining the desired smart mega city status for Anambra state as enshrined in the people’s manifesto of Mr. Governor.

” Ndi Anambra are rich people and are residing in many different locations across the states in Nigeria and outside this country. This motion is calling on them to join hands and develop the state because the government cannot do it alone.

“If the private sector join hands with government, it will unlish the potentials to develop Anambra state. It will encourage people to develop their local area and networking, inclusiveness,

Speaking in support of the motion, Hon. Ebuka Igwe, Hon. Ejike Okechukwu, Hon Anayo Okpaleke, Hon. Golden Iloh, Hon. Azubuike Udenezue, Hon. Fred Ezenwa, Hon. Chimezie Ikwunne, Hon. Jude Umennajiego, Deputy Majority Leader Hon. Jude Akpua, Chief Whip Hon. Jude Ngobili, Majority Leader Hon Ikenna Ofodeme and Hon. Chidi Ibemeka In their separate submission called on ndi Anambra leaving outside the state and those in diaspora to think home.

” The likes of Tonimas has started it at Neni community. There is also Neni Development Initiative, that has the ability of developing all sectors of the town both on education and judiciary and are renovating all the schools in Neni, renovating old roads and building new ones. Ndi Neni are currently building a high court and other communities like Adazi, Nnewi and Okija and Nimo are also developing their areas.

” Government does not have all the resources to build the roads. Considering the economic situation, this motion is coming at the right time because Anambra has the highest millioners and it will be right if we assist the government.

” We have lots of ndi Anambra who are well to do, they should come back and invest. It will elevate our communities and creat employment for our people and reduce crime.

” We commend Governor Chukwuma Soludo for visiting Abuja and Lagos in a town hall meeting, calling on ndi Anambra to come home and invest.

” This motion is calling for awearness and consciousness. Governor Soludo has created good environment for business and investments to success and we have to key-in”. The lawmakers submitted.

Anambra assembly Speaker Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze in his submission commended the chief sponsor of the motion for the initiative. Udeze also hailed the governor for his efforts, stating that think home philosophy of Anambra indigenes in both Private and Public sectors will help in developing communities.
