Anambra State Peace Building And Conflict Management Agency Bill, Passes Second Reading

A bill for a law to establish the Anambra State Peace Building and Conflict Management Agency and for releated matters has been read for the second time.

Deputy Majority Leader Hon. Jude Akpua who is the chief sponsor of the bill, while leading the debate at plenary on Tuesday moved a motion for the second reading and was seconded by Hon. Chidi Ibemeka.

Hon. Akpua who is the member representing Njikoka two constituency said the bill is all about peace and conflict resolution.

According to Hon. Akpua, “Peace is paramount in our daily life. Without peace, we cannot get things achieved in our society. Some years back, there was issue regarding land dispute between Aguleri and Umueri and this bill if passed into law, will intervene in many cases in Anambra.

” This bill is important because currently we have many problems and issues between families, marriages and communities in Anambra state.

“My home town Abba is having issues between neighboring town. Little provocation makes people react this days and it has landed many people in prison.

“This bill if passed into law will settle little issues. Nimo a community in my constituency are having issues and this bill can settle such problems.

“Governor Chukwuma Soludo is a peace loving person and is doing everything within his powers to make Anambra state conducive”. Hon. Akpua submitted.

Speaking in favour of the bill, Hon. Tony Mobuike, Hon. Azubuike Udemezue, Hon. Nonso Atuchukwu, Majority leader Hon. Ikenna Ofodeme and Hon. Obi Nweke mainted that Anambra State Peace Building And Conflict Management Agency Bill is needed now more than ever.

According to the lawmakers “Progress only exist in an atmosphere of peace and one of the pillers of Governor Soludo is on peace and justice which was the reason for establishing the commission of justice and peace.

” This bill if passed into law and well implemented, will promote peace and co-existence in Anambra state. It will also create a platform for NGO’s to function well on issues of peace building.

” This bill if passed into law will reduces the cases in court because most of the cases in court will not be resolved in a long time but with the agency which will be created through this bill, most of the cases will be resolved faster.

“There are cases that are not meant to get to the law court because they could be settled by few friends and family and this bill if passed into law will reduce the huge load of works waiting to be attended to by the few judges available.

” If we have a peaceful environment, then the prosperous homeland which is one of the agenda of Governor Soludo can be achieved.

” Even at our kindred level, there are lots of issues and steps are been taking to resolve them and most of the petitions that comes to the house of assembly will reduce through this bill”. The legislators submitted

Anambra Assembly Speaker Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze refered the bill to the house committee on Judiciary and Justice, chaired by Hon. Patrick Okafor, the member representing Onitsha North two Constituency and was mandated to report back in the next adjourned date which is on September 26.
