Anambra Lawmaker Calls For More Awearness Over Symptoms Of Breast Cancer

Anambra State House of Assembly has called on  Governor Chukwuma Soludo to direct the commissioner for health, woman and social welfare and information to as a matter of urgency raise awarness on the symptoms of breast cancer in other to prevent, control and reduce the risk that is associated with the disease.

Chief sponsor of the motion Hon. Nkechi Ogbuefi in her submission said that in a global effort to raise awareness on breast cancer, October has been designated as the pink month. 

Hon. Ogbuefi who is the member representing Anaocha one constituency maintained that the pink month is a month for annual campaign to raise awareness and to educate those concerned about the impact of breast cancer including early identification, signs and symptoms associated with it. 

” Most of our women are not familiar with the signs and symptoms of breast cancer. The  inability of our women including our young girls to identify the early signs and symptoms of breast cancer is worrisome.

“If there is adequate awareness and sensitization on the impact of breast cancer, it will go a long in preventing and reducing the danger associated with the breast cancer. Let us all take the messages to our constituencies and create awearness”.

Supporting the motion, Hon. Tony Muobike, Hon Ejike Okechukwu, Deputy Majority Leader Hon. Jude Akpua, Hon. Golden lloh, Majority Leader Hon. Ikenna Ofodome, Hon. Emma Nwafor and Hon. Patrick Okafor in their separate submissions called for more awearness.

According to the lawmakers, prevention is the key and early detection and regulary medical check is advisable.

“Creating awearness, sensitazation, and constant eaten natural food will go a long way in preventing breast cancer.

” Breast cancer is curable if detected early. For those who can afford it, regular screening is advisable”. 

Anambra assembly Speaker Rt. Hon. Somto Udeze while commending the chief sponsor of the motion, stated that the rate of breast cancer is inreasing.

Rt. Hon. Udeze urged the lawmakers to champion the cause on the establishment of care agency for breast cancer and support groups.
