Anambra state house committee on Finance and Appropriation, with the committee on economic planning and SDGs has commence 2024 budget draft estimates defense, bilateral discussion with ministries, departments, agencies and other government parastatals.
Speaking at the budget defense, house committee chairman on Finance and Appropriation Hon. Ejike Okechukwu in his remark, assured the ministries that the 8th assembly will do everything within its powers by making the budget realistic and achievable.
Hon. Okechukwu who is the member representing Anaocha two constituecy urged the various ministries that appeared before the committees to put in more effort so as the achieve the mission and vision of Governor Chukwuma Soludo.
Anambra State Commissioner For Budget and Economic Planning, Mrs Chiamaka Nnake while speaking said the 2024 budget had 57 percent increament. She gave the breakdown as follows;
“Development of leasure was estimated 10 billion, education 20.3 billion, completion of on-going road projects and commencement of new once, 141 billion, Health 16 billion, urban regeneration 2.5 billion, Infrastructure investment at the airport 44 billion, International branded hotel 4 billion, youth programs 4 billion, Micro enterprise support scheme 1.5 billion, government lodge, old peoples home and construction of government buildings 10.5 billion. Investment in transport 5.3 billion, coco nut and other seedling program 2 billion, conterpart fund 2. billion, ICT 2.7 billion. (making over 80 percent of the budget).
On his part, Anambra Commissioner for Finance Mr. Izu Okafor at the budge defense stated that, in the coming year, the ministry will have an internal control office that will be incharge and supervice public funds for better transparency, with a law to back it up.
Mr. Okafor assured the 8th assembly that his ministry will work harder in 2024 by putting-in more effort.
Anambra State Accountant General, Sir Chukwudi Okoli While answering questions from the committee members, assured that all hands will be on deck in the coming year in order to serve ndi Anambra better.
Sir. Okoli revealed that more trainings will be organized for the staff of the organisation in order to enhence delivery.
Speaking to house correspondents in an interview after the budget defense, Budget Commissioner Mrs Chiamaka Nnake said the current inflation and the upcoming investments were the reasons for the 57 percent increament in the budget.
“The key delivables is took over 80 percent of the budget, it shows that we are intentional and we are focus on delivering value to ndi Anambra.
Speaking on how realistic the budget is and how it will be funded, the budget commissioner said;
” We have an IGR estimate of 50 billion, we have accepted the challenges we have this year and we are hoping to change the dimension.
” The assurance we are giving ndi Anambra is that they will get value for their tax. We are very careful to isolate big projects that will be visible and appreciated.
Anambra Accountant General Sir Chukwudi Okoli while speaking with the press said in the coming year, he is looking farward to computerize the office so as to meet the objective of 2024.
