Anambra Commissioner for Health Dr. Afam Obidike said the state government will build another nursing school of international standard at the Ekwulobia zone.
Dr. Obidike who appeared along-side members of his ministry during the budget defense/bilateral discussion presided by Anambra assembly committee on Finance and Appropration chaired by Hon. Ejike Okechukwu and committee on health chaired by Hon. Tony Moubike, proposed to spend 15 billion in 2024.
According to the commissioner, Anambra state has four zone (Nnewi, Onitsha, Awka and Ekwulubia). Three zones have nursing institutions except Ekwulubia and we are planning to have diagnostics center.
“The on-going free antenatal care and delivery services in the state will continue to attend to the most primary health needs of women and save low income families of serious financial burdens.
” The Governors wife, Mrs Nonye Soludo visited two women who recently delivered quadruplet and triplet respectively at Referral Health Centre, Awgbu, and Enugwuabo Health Centre, Ufuma, both in Orumba North Local Government Area.
“On reception of the news, Mrs Soludo booked a surprise visit to celebrate with the two mothers and present her own gift to the babies.
“Both women are beneficiaries of the recently-introduced free antenatal care and delivery services in Anambra State. This would have caused them millions elsewhere. We are bringing back confidence back to our people.
” Next year, We will tackle erosion, infrastructure challenges confronting school of Nursing Nkpor in Idemili North LGA.
“We tackled monkey pulse and lesser fever this year and improved services in Enugu Ukwu, Umueri, Nanka general hospitals
” If you dial ‘112’, our agents will respond and our ambulance are always available to emergency calls.
” The ministry of health is currently constructing a special hospital at Okpoko, Anambra West and Ayamelum. In Amanuke, work is ungoing and also at Okija.
“Health is one of the areas that is very pecular to everybody and the administration of Governor Chulwuma Soludo is intentional in transforming the sector.
Speaking in an interview after the defense Dr. Afam Obidike added by saying that five hundred recruited staff started work this year and that massive work is on-going at the College of health technology Obosi and we have extended more work on health department.
” Work is on-going at the four local governments
without general hospital which are Ayamelum, Anambra West, Okpoko and Onitsha South.
” We have established drug bag at the three senatoral areas (Umueri, Enugu Ugwu and Nanka) general hospitals and they will soon be lunched.
“In the area of primary healthcare, we are making sure that all the primary health care are functional. Equipments and solar has been approved and infrastructure will soon commence.
” The number of women delivering in government hospital has increased drastically. Massive infrastructure and training of human resources.
” Tele-medicine which started at Oyi local government is still functional and will be spread across the 21 local government areas. Thousand of patients have received treatment.
” Next week, we are recruiting five hundred health workers (two doctors per local government) specifically for tele-medicine”. Obidike revealed.
