Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Resident Electoral Commissioner in Anambra State, Dr Elizabeth Agwu said they have mobilised both human and material resources, including security for a credible House of Representatives rerun holding across 21 polling units on February 3rd, 2024.
Angel Network News reports that Dr. Agwu disclosed this on Wednesday at a media interactive session held at INEC headquarters in Awka, the state capital.
Dr. Agwu assured the residents, especially voters that their votes would count, adding that none would be intimidated, molested or disfranchised.
In her words; “The rerun would be held at 16 polling units at Nanka (Orumba North Council Area) to determine the winner of Orumba North and Orumba South federal constituency and 5 polling units at Nnewi (Nnewi North Council Area) to determine the winner of Nnewi North, Nnewi South and Ekwusigo Federal constituency.
” The total numbers of voters at affected polling units in Nnewi North were 97,438 while that of Orumba North stood at 161,914 voters.
” Nobody is excluded. All the candidates and political parties will participate. Eleven parties in Orumba North and nine parties in Nnewi North.
“We have notified all that are involved in the rerun. There will be enough and tight security. Parents should discourage their children from participating from election malpractice.
“Stand alone elections are usually difficult because of the challenges confronting it. Be on the watchout. If you see something, say something. If their are any plots of disrupt the election, inform INEC or the police.
” The voters register will be available soon. INEC needs the cooperation of everyone to achieve success.
“Do not be compromised. Vote for the best candidates that can represent you well. Do not say you won’t vote again because anyone is leading before.
” If you know the candidate you voted for before is still the same person you will vote for, come out to vote for him or her again. If you want to vote for another candidate, you are free to do so too. The election is going to be free, fair and credible.
“You will not be intimidated or molested by anyone. There will be enough security. Do not allow anyone to use you as a thug or scape goat.
“There will be no room for manipulation, vote buying or vote selling. It was not possible during the general election, it wont be possible now.
“The 2022 INEC electoral Act is against this and by you will be prosecuted. All the candidates can still mobilise votes but political campaigns end two days to election date,” Agwu maintained.
