A bill for a law to establish the health facilities monitoring and accreditation agency and for connected purposes has been passed into law at the Anambra State House of Assembly.
Angel Network News (ANN) reports that after some corrections at the committee of whole, Deputy Majority Leader Hon. Jude Akpua representing Njikoka two constituency moved a motion for the bill to be read for third time, and was seconded by the Minority Leader Hon. Johnbosco Akaegbobi representing Nnewi South one constituency.
Anambra Assembly Speaker Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze stated that the law will take effect in two weeks time.
Speaking with house of assembly correspondents in an interview after plenary, the member representing Aguata two constituency Hon. Tony Muobike said the law is intended to monitor and accredite health facilities in Anambra state.
Hon. Muobike who is the Committee Chairman on health lamented stating that the health sector and the mode of operating is in a pity condition.
” Their appears to be no regulations. Hospitals, nursing centers, laboratories other medical clinics are operating the way the want.
“The intent of of this law, is to bring the sense of decurom and also provide a frame work that will regulate registration, administration and management of health facilities in Anaambra state.
” This law has created an agency who’s function is clearly stipulated and is going to ensure that only licensed professionals both private and public will be practicing in their respective areas of professionalism.
” That quality healthcare that ndi Anambra required will be achieved through this law. It will restore confidence in the delivery of health services because this law will help health professionals understand their scope of practice”. Muobike concluded
