* Anambra State House of Assembly Speaker Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze has inspected and concluded his road project tour. The Speaker together with other members of the 8th assembly inspected road projects currently ongoing in Anambra North Senatorial zone. Udeze during the inspection, urged contractors handling various road construction to speed up work so as to meet up with the deadline stipulated in the contracts.
* The Anambra State Government has declared total war, zero tolerance against the unlawful activitives of touts on the streets across the State. The Director Operations, Special Anti-Tout Squad (SASA), Anambra State, Mr. Solomon Chukwuebuka Onwuemene, made this know in his office in the State Government House, Awka while receiving the Anambra State President -General, Joint Transporters Forum, Pastor Elvis Okolie and his Executive Members who were in his office on courtesy visit.
* Joe-Martins Uzodike, former Secretary of Rangers Int’l FC of Enugu has commended Chukwuma Soludo, governor of Anambra for his massive welfare package for veteran players of the club popularly known as Ex-Rangers. Uzodike who was Rangers Int’l FC secretary between 1974 and 1984, made the commendation while speaking to newsmen in Awka. He said though the state government had been catering to the welfare of Ex-Rangers, the new package announcement made by Soludo when he led them on a courtesy visit to him at the weekend was unprecedented.
* Anambra State Governors wife, Nonye Soludo, says her non-governmental crusade, Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo, is willing to work with groups that are driven by similar goals. She stated this when she met with state officers of the National Council of Women Societies, Anambra State chapter, at the Governor’s Lodge in Amawbia. The group was on a visit to seek closer collaboration with the Governor’s wife’s NGO, and to also announce an award of excellence that would be presented to Mrs Soludo for the impact she has made with her healthy living movement. The award would be presented to the Governor’s wife at the national convention of the National Council of Women Societies which will hold in Abuja later this year.
* Residents of Owelle Aja Obosi in Idemili North Local Government Area have staged a peaceful protest over what they described as the poor performance of the contractor handling the about one-point-two-kilometer road awarded by the Anambra State Government.
According to the protesters, the contractor handling the project, Stafaunuti Stock Hapel Limited, seems to have abandoned the road project for months now, thereby making life unbearable for the people and residents. The protesters, who expressed gratitude to the Anambra State Government for awarding the construction of the road, however expressed dismay over its seeming abandonment and called on the government to order the contracting firm handling the project back to site.
* Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ, Anambra State chapter has called on the governor of the state Prof Charles Soludo to stop the clamping down on newspapers vendors in Awka,the state capital. In a communique issued at the end of March Congress held in Awka, jointly signed by the chairman and the secretary of the Council Comrade Odogwu Emeka Odogwu Comrade Aloysius Ofodile respectively,the Council condemned the action of the government shutting newspapers vendors in the state.
* Governor of Anambra State Prof Charles Soludo may sack most of his Commissioners, Principle Officers, Managing Director of various parastals and agencies as he plans cabinet reshuffle. A source in the government who does not want his name to be mentioned said Soludo is yearning to inject new people in his government after two years in Office. The source further stated that some of the principle officers in the government have over stayed their welcome in the government offices while some are not performing well.
* The Ag.Vice-Chancellor, Chukwuemeka Odomegwu Ojukwu University Anambra State, Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha, has lamented inadequate accommodation, water and power supply at Uli campus Ihiala, in Ihiala Local Government Area of the State. Prof. Omenugha stated this while addressing 100-level students of the University, during it 2024 orientation programme, held at the campus. The Ag. Vice Chancellor who was also led round the University by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academics, Prof. Osita Chiaghanam, further charged the students to always take their studies seriously and eschew frivolities and other vices capable of undermining their overall goal in the university.
