Over fifty (50) persons living with sickle sell disorder in Anambra State have been adopted into the Anambra State Health Insurance Scheme (ASHIS) by the state government as part of events marking the second year anniversary of the Soludo government.
Angel Network News (ANN) reports that the Managing Director of Anambra State Health Insurance Agency (ASHIA), Dr Simeon Onyemaechi, in his speech, stated that the initiative is in line with the pro-poor and vulnerable stance of the Prof. Chukwuma Soludo administration, describing the gesture as a strong commitment to shouldering the financial burden associated with managing the health challenges of the sickle cell patients.
Dr. Onyemaechi, who was represented by Mrs Tonia Okoli, enlightened the beneficiaries on the importance of regular checkups, especially now that they have health insurance.
Responding, the Director, Sickle Cell Orphanage and Underprivileged Home Agulu, Mrs. Aisha Edward Maduagwu, who appreciated the state government for the goodwill towards sickle cell patients, recalled that the agency earlier this year insured 20 kids living with sickle cell and have now added more, and thank them for attending to their special needs.
Maduagwu also appreciated the state government for sustainability of the scheme and pleads that more attention be paid to people living with sickle cell as they need assistance to keep living.
