* A non-governmental organization, Dr. Chioma Awuzie Foundation (DCAF), has offered scholarships to 17 indigent students in Anambra State. The students were selected from public tertiary education institutions in state, as a way to assist them and lessen the burden of high cost of education on their guardians. The foundation also shared food items and other gifts worth over N10million to students and other indigent persons as part of its 2024 edition of scholarship award and charity initiative.

* The traditional ruler of Omor, in Ayamelum Local Government Area of Anambra State, His Royal Highness Igwe Oranu Chris Chidume, MON has called on government to provide access road to the people living in rural areas. The royal father who made the call recently in an interactive session with journalists in his palace, noted that in order to address food crisis faced by the residents of the country, there are need for both Federal and State Government to construct and maintain access road for easy distribution of farm products from hinterland to the urban areas across the nation. 

* The Transition Committee Chairman of Orumba South Local Government Area, Hon. Shedrack Azubuike has pledged his total commitment towards the improvement of the condition of schools and health care centres in all the fifteen communities of Orumba South in line with Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s transformation agenda on education and health care delivery in the State. Azubuike while speaking during his visit to Community High School Umunze, Victory High School Ezira, All Saints Secondary School Umunze, Community Secondary School Nawfija, Government Technical College Umunze as well as New Bethel Secondary School Isulo, extolled Governor Chukwuma Soludo for providing quality education for students of the State and assured that he will contribute his quota.

* Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo has condoled with his Deputy, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, the Archbishop Ecclesiastical Province, Most Rev. Alexander Ibezim and their family members, over the death of their brother; Late Sir Nnamdi Ibezim who died at age 65. Speaking during the funeral service held at St Lawrence Mbaukwu Awka South Council Area, Governor Soludo applauded the Ibezim family for complying with the state burial law and for giving their loved one a decent burial.

* The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Anambra State Branch, has announced an indefinite strike action effective Monday, July 15, 2024. This was contained in a statement signed by Nwezi Ugochukwu, the Anambra State Assistant Secretary of the union. The strike notice was copied to all Directors, Deputy Directors, Assistant Chief Registrars, Registrars in-charge, and staff of the Anambra State Judiciary. The decision to embark on the strike followed the failure of the Anambra State Government to comply with the agreements reached in 2011 and 2015 with the state JUSUN.

* A sports masquerade with a brand name IJELE Sports Club emerged and express its readiness to take the geopolitical zone by storm in sports development touching all strata in multidimensional approach from basketball, football to anything ball, from tennis to squash etc. Speaking recently, the man tasked with the responsibility of propelling the dream, a Sports Management expert, Victor Obinna Edeh gave insight into the vision and mission of Ijele Sports Club. “We are on a mission to produce National and African champions across multiple sports disciplines within the next decade. Our Vision is to become the biggest and most prestigious sports club in Nigeria through membership growth, setting national standards in athletic excellence and sports development. To field men’s and women’s teams at the highest league levels in football, basketball, handball, volleyball, and more.

* The management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH), Nnewi has disclosed that the Coordinating Minister for Health, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate would on Tuesday inaugurate the permanent site of the hospital. The Chief Medical Director (CMD) of NAUTH, Prof. Joseph Ugboaja disclosed this to journalists during in a press at the weekend. Ugboaja said presently, the establishment has moved from the old site, which is located within the crowded Nnewi metropolis to a more expansive permanent site, also in Nnewi.

* Anambra State Chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC) has hailed President Bola Tinubu and the Supreme Court justices following judgment granting local government autonomy. According to Anambra State APC Chairman, Chief Sir Basil Ejidike in a statement he personally signed, said it took President Tinubu’s ingenuity and commitment towards grassroots development to deepen democracy in the local governments. 

* A business Executive Chief Boniface Egbutu has called on the federal government to create more business friendly environments that will stimulate the growth of indigenous firms. Speaking in an interview recently in Awka, Chief Egbutu regretted that many indigenous firms that suppose to be a key player in developing the nation’s economy are closing shops and called on the federal government to seek ways of addressing the ugly trend. According to Chief Egbutu who is also a chieftain of the All progressives Grand Alliance APGA as well as a community leader in Nise Awka South local government area, friendly business policies of the government will apart from encouraging industrial growth and attracting expatriates improve the Gross Domestic product of the country and create more jobs for the teeming youths.

* Over eighty-five candidates of St Jude’s Anglican Church, Nando in Anambra East Local Government Area have received sacrament of confirmation and admitted into the Women’s Guild and Girls Guild of the Diocese of Niger West. The event featured foundation stone laying of the church, the consecration of the church brigade flags and materials. The service was presided over by the Bishop of the Diocese, Right Reverend Johnson Ekwe.
