* The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of governing council of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Amb. Greg Mbadiwe has cleared the air on the recent removal of Prof Joe Ikechebelu as acting vice chancellor. The council had last weekend removed Ikechebelu and installed Prof Carol Umobi as acting vice chancellor. The move had been greeted with protests, as some Senate members opposed to the appointment, but Mbadiwe in a press statement said Ikechebelu was never an acting Vice Chancellor, but just an overseer, who was handed over at the retirement of former Vice Chancellor, Prof Charles Esimone.

* An illustrious son of Umuchu community in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State, Chief Abraham Otti has charged students to take their studies serious and strive to be the best of what they want in life, promising to sustain the programme. Speaking during the support grant event, Chief Otti represented by his Personal Assistant, Mr. Ikenna Ifemeje, described the event as one of his numerous ways of touching lives and giving back to the society, noting that the grant has been going on in Achalla, Umuchu for some years now but he decided to extend it to the entire Umuchu Community due to his passion to assist in raising  giants in all sectors of life through qualitative education. A total of 262 students and pupils from different tertiary institutions, secondary schools, and primary schools, received the 2024 Educational Support Grant from Chief Otti.

* One person lost his life while two others were rescued unhurt in a ghastly motor accident opposite Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Command Nteje by Nteje-Awka-Onitsha Expressway, Anambra state. The crash involved Toyota Camry with Registration Number: ABJ125JV, and Ford Explorer with registration number: ZBL626RL. According to eyewitness, the camry driver lost control and crashed after crossing to the Ford Explorer lane on a single carriage way.

* The Gender Perspective and Social Development Centre (GPSDC), has sought the support and collaboration of the TB Network in Anambra State towards successful implementation of its ‘Fund TB Project’ in the area. The Program Manager of the Centre, Ogechukwu Ozoemena, made the appeal when she led other members on an advocacy visit to the State TB Network Coordinator and State Lead of the C19 CSS Project, Mrs Ify Unachukwu. 

* MD/CEO of Awka Capital Territory Development Authority, Mr. Ossy Onuko together with Chairman Anambra State Sports Commission, Hon. Patrick-Estate 

Onyedum has welcomed Football Professionals and Coaches from FC Barcelona of Spain. The three-man team, namely; Daniel Busquets Ayllón, Albert Atmeller Lurbe and Ejike Paschal, arrived in Awka, and was given a warm reception by Onuko and Onyedum. Speaking to newsmen, ACTDA boss, Mr. Ossy Onuko, highlighted that Governor Chukwuma Soludo, has provided the platform for the growth/development of sports in the State, hence the willingness of sports giants like FC Barcelona to approve the coming of their officials to Anambra State out of the whole states in Nigeria. 

* The Bishop, Anglican Diocese of Amichi, Rt. Rev. Ephraim Ikeakor has urged people not to allow distractions make them to lose focus and miss heaven. Bishop Ikeakor gave the charge while delivering a sermon at a special service to mark the end of the 16th Women’s Conference of the Diocese held at St Andrew’s Anglican Church, Unubi in Nnewi South Local Government Area. The Bishop who spoke on the topic “Flee from Idolatry” regretted the level of abominable things happening in the church and how people run after miracles without knowing the foundation or where the miracle is coming from, noting that most of the victims are women, advising them to be careful and embrace the true gospel.

* In a bid to strengthen his campaign and promote issue-based politics, Sen. Ifeanyi Ubah, has held an interactive session with Anambra APC social media influencers. The meeting, which took place at his Umuanuka Otolo Nnewi residence, aimed to task the influencers on the importance of working with the party’s ideology and promoting the state’s quest for change. Ubah commended the influencers for their dedication and patriotic mindset, reassuring them of his focus on issue-based campaigns. He emphasized the need to avoid attacking other aspirants and instead champion human capital development and APC’s achievements.

* The Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Anambra State (COOU) Alumni Association Awka branch has elected a new Executive Committee to run its affairs for the next four years. The election conducted by the Electoral Committee, which took place during the chapter’s monthly general meeting got Engr. Onyebuchi Onwuteaka emerging as the new Chairman of the association. Other officials elected include, Vice Chairman, Barr Onyinye-Iheazor Chimezie,  Secretary General, Comrade IKC Onuorah, Treasurer, Muogbuo Chineye Rose, Public Relations Officer, Nwosu Felix,  and Financial Secretary, Nnachor Basil. In his post-election speech, Engr. Onwuteaka promised an inclusive administration that would give members a sense of belonging and boost their unity as one family. 

* The Chapel of Holy Innocents, Archbishop Patterson Seminary, Igbariam, witnessed a momentous occasion as it celebrated its 15th anniversary, marked the tenth valedictory service, and honored outstanding achievers through awards. The triple celebration attracted dignitaries, students and alumni who converged on the institutions campus to commemorate the milestones. In his address, Rt. Rev. Johnson Nwaohalama emphasized on the importance of education, urging all the students including the valedictorian to take education serious, stating the importance of hard work in making a positive impact on the society.

* The new acting Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Prof Carol Umobi on Monday July 22, assumed office while Prof Joe Ikechebelu, has reverted to his previous position as Deputy Vice Chancellor administration.

Umobi took over in a smooth transition as she was handed over by the former acting Vice Chancellor, Prof Joe Ikechebelu, who was last weekend removed by the council of the university, led by Amb. Greg Mbadiwe. Briefing journalists immediately after the handover, the Special Adviser to the Vice Chancellor on Media, Dr. Emma Ojukwu said Umobi will act for a non renewable term of six months, and will not be a part of the contest for a substantive Vice Chancellor.
