* The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) Awka branch has been rated as the best union in the South East Geopolitical zone and fourth best in the land amongst the Union’s branches in Nigerian Federal Universities. This disclosure was made by the Centre for Ethics and Self Value Orientation (CESVO) when the Non-governmental organization honoured the Union’s branch Chairperson, Comrade Njideka Nwangwu with an Award of Ethics and Conscience (AEC) on Wednesday, 24th July 2024 at the Conference Room of the College of Post Graduate Studies (CPGS) UNIZIK. The Executive Director of CESVO, Ethicist (Prince) Salih Musa Yakubu informed that from their investigations, reviews and findings, SSANU UNIZIK Branch is enlisted among the top 10 highly rated most ethically responsible and corrupt free branch of the Union in Nigeria Federal Universities genuinely committed to quality citizen’s service deliveries and members welfare.
* A Non-Governmental Organization, Gender Perspective and Social Development Centre, (GPSDC), has solicited prompt release of funds budgeted for government’s response to tuberculosis in Anambra State. The Executive Director of the organization, Eucharia Anekwe, made the call when her team visited the Executive Secretary, Anambra State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Chisom Uchem in her office to solicit support for the Fund TB Project in the area. Represented by GPSDC’s Program Manager, Ogechukwu Ozoemena, Anekwe regretted that despite that tuberculosis has not enjoyed much governmental funding like HIV and malaria in the state, the little amount budgeted for it is not always released.
* The Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, Victor Umeh has mourned the passing of Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo. Sen. Umeh while lamenting over the death of
Iwuanyanwu at an event in Ngodo, Nise, on Thursday, said the nation is losing its icons in quick succession. Umeh described Iwuanyanwu’s death as a tragic loss, saying he died while serving the Igbo nation. He listed notable figures like George Obiozor, Ogbennaya Onu, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, Alex Ekwueme, Ben Nwabueze, amongst others as those who had passed away recently.
* Prof Chukwuma Soludo says joint efforts are needed to make Anambra State Polythenic Mgbakwu (ANSPOLY), Centre of Academic Excellence. Soludo gave this assessment while addressing the Mgbakwu community, Anspoly staff, and students who welcomed him to the Institution during his on-the-spot assessment visit to the Polythenic. Soludo emphasized that the quest to lift the Institution to a high-grade Polytechnic is not the sole responsibility of the government, but the concerted efforts through Public Private Community Partnership (PPCP).

has paid a solidarity visit to Barr. Vincent Ifeanyi Ezeaka at his office in Awka. Mrs. Oriel Helen while Speaking in an interview with newsmen after the meeting with Chairman Local Government Service Commission Barr. Vin Ezeaka, revealed that the one week training held recently has impacted tremendously in terms of productivity. Mrs. Oriel Helen who is the head of Orumba South local government area, together with other management team, passed a vote of confidence on Ezeaka.
* Judiciary Workers in Anambra State under the aegis of Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) have suspended its ongoing strike action. The suspension came after paralysing court activities in the state for two weeks as a result of protest over non-payment of Consolidated Judiciary Salary Structure Structure (CONJUS). A letter to Directors, Deputy Directors, Assistant Chief Registrars, Registrars In-charge and Staff of Anambra State Judiciary announcing the suspension, which was signed by the chairman of secretary of JUSUN in Anambra, Mr Ezeoke Henry Nwezi Ugochukwu respectively.
* Anambra State Indigenes have thrilled the world at Munich, Germany during the 2024 Immigrants Cultural Festival recently. The cultural festival featured countries from Europe, Asia and Africa, even as Anambra state was the only State that represented Nigeria. It was a cultural festival organised by the immigrants office responsible in coordinating all the foreign countries in the Munich Municipal council.
* The Anglican Bishop of Amichi Diocese, Right Reverend Ephraim Ikeakor has urged the people not to allow earthly distractions deny them eternity. Bishop Ikeakor gave the charge in a sermon during a special service to mark the end of the sixteenth Amichi Diocesan Women’s Conference held at Saint Andrew’s Anglican Church, Unubi in Nnewi South Local Government Area. The Bishop who spoke on the topic “Flee from Idolatry” regretted the level of abominable things happening in the church and how people run after miracles without knowing the foundation or where the miracle is coming from, noting that most of the victims are women and advised them to be careful and embrace the true gospel.
* A bill for a law to amend the Anambra State Electoral Law 2024 and for other connected purposes has been passed at plenary on Thursday July 25th. After the first reading, the Majority Leader Hon. Ikenna Ofodeme through order 74 of the house, moved a motion for the second reading and was seconded by the Minority Leader Hon. Johnbosco Akaebuobi. The lawmakers after making the necessary amendments at the committee of the whole, red the bill for the third time before passing it into law.
Anambra Assembly Speaker Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze said the ammendment was necessary in order to conduct a credible local government election in the state as demanded.
* Governor Chukwuma Soludo has mourned the passing of President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu who died on Thursday July 25, 2024 at the age of 82 years after a brief illness. In his condolence message signed by the Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr.
Christian Aburime, Soludo expressed profound sadness on the passage of the elder statesman, describing it as a monumental loss not only to his immediate family and the Igbo nation but to Nigeria as a whole. The Governor further described Chief Iwuanyanwu as a personal mentor, a great supporter as well as an influential figure whose life and wise counsel were a tribute to exceptional leadership, patriotism, and steadfast dedication to the progress of the Igbo nation and Nigeria as a Country.
