* As festive period nears, Anambra State Government and Descendants Fortune Investments Limited have unveiled “Anambra Christmas Village 2024”.

The event held at the International Convention Center Awka had in attendance the Chief of Protocol and Deputy Chief of Staff to Governor Chukwuma Soludo, Mr Chinedu Nwoye, Commissioner for Culture, Tourism and Entertainment, Mr Don Onyenji, his counterpart in-charge of Commerce and Industry, Mr Christian Udechukwu, and members of Descendants Fortune Investments Limited.

In his remark, Commissioner Onyenji explained that the Anambra State Executive Council gave approval for the establishment of the “Anambra Christmas Village 2024”; as it is in line with Governor Soludo’s vision of making the state center of attraction, and will complement activities at the Solution Fun City when completed, as well as other leisure centers in the state.

* Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) Anambra State Council extends its heartfelt empathy and solidarity to NAWOJ National Chairperson Comrade Aisha Ibrahim on the devastating floods that ravaged her home State Borno and her people.

According to a release signed by Tochukwu Ifejika, Chairperson and Faith Onyemuche, Assistant Secretary stated that the loss of homes, livelihoods, and the challenges faced by countless individuals and families in Borno State are heart-wrenching.

“We recognize the immense hardship and distress that such events bring, and we extend our heartfelt compassion to all those affected.

“In these challenging times, we stand with you and share in your grief and struggles while praying for the safety of affected persons and call on the Federal Government and well meaning person’s to come to the aid of Borno State and her people.

* Mr. Miracle Chinecherem Uchenna of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, has emerged overall winner of the maiden edition of Chief Okwy Ogbuefi Visual Art Competition. He went home with a cheque for N400, 000.

Mr. Godspower Peter Ubala also of the same school emerged first runner up with a cheque for N250,000, while Mr Daniel Ifeanyi Odukwu of Federal Polytechnic, Oko emerged second runner with a cheque for N150,000.

The grand finale of competition titled, “The Way Out”, took place at Trig-Premium Hotels and Galleries, Nibo in Awka South Local Government Area with students, artists of various genres and lovers of arts in attendance.

In his speech, the Benefactor, Chief Okwy Ogbuefi who majored in painting in the higher institution, explained that the arts exhibition which will become an annual programme was designed to motivate and encourage upcoming artists.

* The Anambra State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps,
Comdt. Maku Olatunde has advised junior personnel writing their promotion exams to believe in their own capabilities and exude confidence, urging them to trust in the knowledge and skills they have acquired.

Comdt. Maku stated this in Awka on Saturday 14th of September, 2024 while addressing the personnel at the Examination Venue in Awka.

He urged the candidates to approach the examination with a clear and level head, carefully considering each question before answering, while avoiding unnecessary stress and anxiety.

* The Idemili North Local Government Chairmanship candidate of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), in the forthcoming local government polls, Hon. Chief Stanley Nkwoka has said that First Aid practice is the mother of humanitarian services in the world, as it is dedicated to saving life before the arrival of an ambulance or taking the patient to the hospital or medical doctor.

He made this statement today as the world commemorates 2024 World First Aid Day which the aim centers on *Spotlight The Critical Intersection Between First Aid And Sports*, stating that the theme highlighted the critical role that first aid can play in sporting environments, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of athletes, spectators and communities.

Hon. Nkwoka said, World First Aid Day was established by International Committee of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies on second week of September 2000 and, it is observed globally every year to appreciate the World first aiders for their sacrifice to save many innocent lives.

While promising to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to train more youths on first aid, he commended first aiders in the council area, urging them to continue their selfless service to the people and humanity at large.

* Anambra State Government through the Ministry of He6ath has held a one day seminar for the National Association of Complementary and Alternative Medicine Practitioners in the state.

The event which was held in Awka, has its theme as “registration, renewal, recertification processes and practice guidelines”.

It attracted members of the association in the State, as well as resource persons from outside the state.

Addressing the gathering, the Commissioner for Health, Dr Afam Obidike who recalled the terrible experiences the Ministry has had with quack medical practitioners who later claimed to be homoeopaths, noted that the Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration will never allow anyone or group of people to toy with the lives of Ndi Anambra.

* A stakeholder in Nnobi ward one, Chief Osy Okpanku has donated one thousand (1,000) posters and three (3) large banners to support the campaign of Hon. Mrs Amaka Obi and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Idemili South Local Government of Anambra State.

Chief Okpanku during the donation of the materials noted that building a better society starts with electing a progressive leader which according to him is the responsibility of everyone.

Okpanku emphasized that Hon. Amaka Obi and APGA deserves every support following her record as Transition Chairman.

Receiving the materials, Hon. Amaka Obi, appreciated the solidarity and commitment to the growth and development of Idemili South.

Obi reassured her commitment to enthrone a peaceful, united and progressive Idemili South through ensuring that solution agenda gets to the grassroots.

She called on all the progressives and lovers of good governance to join the bandwagon for a livable and prosperous Idemili South and Anambra in general.

* Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission, ANSIEC has commenced training of her staff in a bid to achieve all round success during the September 28 local government election.

The participants were, as part of the training tested on Post-Election Duties, functions of returning Officers, Collation Officers, Setting Up of polling unit, closing the poll, preparing the ballot for sorting, sorting procedures, counting procedures, recording of votes on result forms, among others.

The training which commenced with the training of commissioners in the commission, continued with the training of Electoral Officers and other critical staff members drawn from all the council areas of the state and will be followed with the training of Ad-hoc staff among others.

Declaring the training workshop opened, the Chairman of the commission, Magistrate Genevieve Osakwe, restated the resolve of the commission to deliver free, fair and credible election and explained that the training was to enable them train their subordinates and others who are involved in the election.

* The Head of Service, Anambra State, Barr Mrs Theodora Igwegbe has assured workers in the state that the State Government is seriously investigating and will soon unveil the whereabouts of pension funds of Local Government staff and Primary School teachers in the state.

Igwegbe stated this in Awka during a one-day awareness workshop on Contributory Pension Scheme in Anambra State, which was jointly organised by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC).

Addressing the workers, Barr Igwegbe said the State Government did not suspend Contributory Pension Scheme but only suspended deductions of such funds to allow the Committee look into what is going on in respect of workers’ welfare.

* Anambra state government has said it would set up a panel of enquiry into land grabbing concerns to checkmate increasing rate of communal crisis in communities across the state.

the Deputy Chief of Staff to Governor Chukwuma Soludo, Mr. Chinedu Nwoye stated this while addressing hundreds of residents of Amanuke in Awka North Council Area of the state who came for a peaceful demonstration at the Government House in Awka.

Addressing the protesters, Nwoye reminded them of Governor Soludo’s love for Amanuke which he demonstrated with the award of the Amanuke-Achalla road to connect them with other towns in the Awka North council area especially the local government headquarters and assured them that the state government will engage all parties involved through a panel of enquiry to ensure lasting solution in their community.

Mr. Nwoye who is also the Chief of Protocol to the Governor warned the public against disrespecting traditional rulers in the state, as the state government will deal decisively with anyone or group found wanting.
