* Anambra State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Dr. Law Mefor has declared that the last Saturday’s Local Government election in the state which was won by APGA party candidates was a referendum on the sterling performance of the governor, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo CFR.

Dr. Mefor made the announcement virtually when he was giving his views on the outcomes of the election on Channels Television’s Launch time Politics programme which was anchored by Kayode Okikiolu.

On the allegation that many parties boycotted the exercise, the commissioner maintained thusly, ” Many parties participated in that election. Unfortunately, they did not win. The reason is not farfetched, Anambra is APGA. The second reason is because of the sterling performance of Professor Soludo.”

* Tansian University, Umunya, Anambra State, is among nine Nigerian universities whose law programmes have been suspended by the Council of Legal Education (CLE).

The CLE’s decision, reached during its second quarterly meeting of 2024, chaired by Chief Emeka Ngige, SAN, affects universities found to have admitted and graduated law students without obtaining necessary accreditation.

Other affected institutions are Nigerian Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State, Fountain University, Osogbo, Osun State, Redeemers University, Ede, Osun State, Taraba State University, Jalingo, Western Delta University, Oghara, Delta State, Kwara State University, Malete, Bingham University, Karu, Nasarawa State and Crescent University, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

* The Association of Non-Indigenes in Anambra State (ANIAS) has commended the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) for the peaceful conduct of the local government election in the state.

The body also praised the security operatives for ensuring that there were no security challenges during the election.

According to Prince Chigozie Nweke, President General of ANIAS,
“Our association sent observers to the polling units to monitor the process, and we are pleased to report that the election was peaceful, credible, and transparent.”

* The need for every child to be equally treated was the crux of the message of the Executive Chairman, Anambra State Universal Basic Education, Board, ASUBEB, Awka, Dr. Vera Nkiru Nwadinobi during the maiden National Summit on Child Rights, held at Awka.

The event organised by Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka in collaboration with UNICEF Nigeria was themed: “Taking Sustainable Positive Actions for the Nigerian Child in the Information Age” attracted critical stakeholders in child development, including educators, policy makers, development partners, agencies of government and children themselves.

In her speech, the ASUBEB boss described children as the future leaders and the adults of tomorrow, who should be treated with equality, respect, and dignity to enable them live a responsible life in the society.

Dr. Nwadinobi maintained that the fundamental rights of children include right to life, education, development, and shelter, among others, pointing out that the right to education for umu akwukwo Anambra is a critical agenda of the incumbent administration in the State, under Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo.

* The traditional ruler of Alor in Idemili South Local Government Area His Royal Majesty, Igwe Dr. MacAnthony Chinedu Elibe Okonkwo has described his nomination for the “NUJ Philanthropist of the Decade” award as his best ever.

Igwe Okonkwo, made this statement after receiving the nomination letter presented to him by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Anambra State Council Chairman, Comrade Dr. Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, on behalf of the union.

The presentation took place at his palace in Alor, witnessed by several Alor indigenes and NUJ members in attendance.

* Anambra State Sports Development Commission, in collaboration with the Anambra State Volleyball Association, has organized a 10-day referee and coaching course.

The training is taking place at Archbishop A.K Obieduna Retreat Center in Nodu Okpuno, Awka.

The program kicked off with a referee course and has now entered its concluding part with the coaching course scheduled to run until October 4, 2024.

* A 46-year-old akara (bean cake) seller from Ebonyi State, Christopher Nwali, was brutally assaulted by residents of Ezeiweka road, Awada Obosi, Anambra State, after he reappeared following rumours of his death.

Nwali, who has been in the mobile fast food business for 18 years, narrated his ordeal to newsmen.

He explained that his troubles began after a hospitalization in Asaba, Delta State, sparked rumours of his demise.

Upon his return, Nwali discovered that his business had collapsed due to the false rumours.

* Anambra State Commissioner for Information, Dr Law Mefor has met with the Head of Service (HOS) and Permanent Secretaries in Anambra State Civil Service.

Addressing the meeting at the Jerome Udoji Secretariat Complex, Awka, Dr Mefor commended them for their excellent performances and implored them to prepare for a weekly radio programme, ‘Ask the Commissioner’, where Commissioners of various Ministries and Heads of Agencies will take turns to tell Ndi Anambra about their achievements, ongoing projects, completed projects, policies and programmes and their benefits, as well as field questions and receive feedbacks.

The Head of Service and the Permanent Secretaries welcomed the new commissioner and wished him success in his new assignment.

* The Engr. Chudi Obinabo Scholarship Programme has enrolled 25 undergraduates and four primary school pupils into the eighth edition of the programme.

It also rewarded outstanding beneficiaries of the scheme who graduated in flying colours.

The enrollment of the new beneficiaries and reward of the outstanding graduates took place during the birthday anniversary celebration of the benefactor in Ifitedunu, Dunukofia council area of the state with the traditional ruler of the community, Igwe Emeka Iluno, government functionaries, presidents general and students of communities in council area in attendance.

Engr Obinabo charged the beneficiaries to maximise the opportunity given to them through the programme to better their lives as their excellence in their academics is the only return on investment that he expects to see from the scholarship programme.

* The Chairman elect of Orumba South LGA Hon. Shedrack Azubuike has thanked the People of the local government for voting massively for him and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the September 28 elections.

Angel Network News (ANN) reports that
the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission’s Returning Officer for Chairmanship Election in Orumba South, Mr. Chinedu Okpala who announced the result at the Council Secretariat Umunze, declared that Hon.Shedrack Azubuike of APGA polled Twenty Thousand, One Hundred and Nineteen votes (20,119), being the highest number of votes cast to beat others.

Speaking to newsmen shortly after being returned winner, Hon. Azubuike who dedicated the victory to God and APGA faithful in Orumba South, expressed joy that Ndi Orumba South were able to prove that they are predominantly APGA members during the election.
