* Chinedu Obigwe, a chieftain of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), has dismissed criticism from opposition elements regarding the recent local government election in Anambra State, labeling them “disgruntled elements,”.
Obigwe stated that the opposition’s negative reaction was expected, as they typically claim elections are unfair when they lose.
“For them, any election they did not win is not free and fair,” he noted.
However, APGA supporters have expressed confidence in Governor Soludo’s administration and the party’s victory in the local government council election.
* The Anambra State Government under Governor Chukwuma Soludo has been described as a government that walks the talk by keeping to its promises to the people and being committed to fulfilling its own part in every agreement with development partners.
The State Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Mrs. Chiamaka Nnake, stated this at the just-concluded Partnership Coordination and Review Meeting organized by the Ministry for the purpose of evaluating the progress of various projects and programs in the State being facilitated through partnerships or joint efforts of the State government and other development partners, with the aim of identifying the challenges (if any), the lessons learned, and the way forward.
Addressing the participants, Commissioner Nnake, who commended the efforts of the actors in the partnership, also reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of the state government to meeting its counterpart funding obligations in these collaborative projects with these development partners, as is evidenced in its timely fulfillment of its own part overtime.
* The Chairman-elect of Awka North Local Government Area, Comr. ThankGod Anago has thanked the people of the local government for voting massively for him and his party in the recently concluded Anambra local government election, promising to deliver a government of inclusivity.
Appreciating his people for the demonstration of trust and convictions in his leadership capacity and expertise, Comrade Anago extended an olive branch to opposition members, eulogized Governor Chukwuma Soludo for keeping to his promise of giving Ndi Anambra a free and fair local government election.
He also commend the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission – ANSIEC for sticking to its promise of delivering a credible election.
He further appreciated his fellow contestants for their show of sportsmanship throughout the electoral process, which he noted made the election in the council area a very peaceful one.
* The Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) in Anambra State, Nigeria reached a significant milestone at Kentucky, by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Kentucky State University, USA.
This partnership signifies a crucial step towards fostering exchange programmes and research linkages between the two institutions. Dr. Koffi Akakpo, the 19th President of COOU, and Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha, the Ag. Vice Chancellor, represented their respective institutions during the historic signing ceremony.
The MoU with Kentucky State University brings numerous benefits, including opportunities for exchange programmes in fields such as Agriculture, Nursing Sciences, Education, and Economics. Notably, a COOU staff member will have the chance to pursue a master’s programme in Soil Science starting in Spring 2025.
* The Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze has described former Chairman of the National Electoral Commission, Prof. Humphrey Nwosu as a great Nigerian who reformed the Nation’s electoral system and brought sanity and innovations to the political practice in Nigeria.
Felicitating Prof. Nwosu on behalf of the State Legislature as he marks his 83rd birthday through a release signed by Mr Emma Madu, Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Rt. Hon.
Udeze maintained that the erudite Professor of Political Science and originator of “Option A4”, did Ndigbo proud in the enviable manner he discharged his duties as Nigeria’s Chief Electoral Officer between 1989 and 1993, adding that his electoral initiatives and reforms endure.
The Speaker who lauded Nwosu’s contributions to the Nigeria’s democracy, called on federal government to name an an important federal institution after him as a mark of honour and appreciation for his efforts towards the advancement of democracy and good governance in Nigeria.
Udeze prayed God to continue to protect Prof. Nwosu and give him longevity, sound health and wisdom to enable him to further impart knowledge and character to the society.
* Anambra State Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor has received his co-psychologists from the Department of Psychology, Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, in his office at the Jerome Udoji Secretariat, Awka.
Addressing the commissioner during the visit, the Director of, the International Consortium of Universities for Drug Reduction (ICUDOR), Nigeria, and immediate past President of, the Nigerian Psychological Association, Prof. Michael Ezenwa, leader of the group, said the essence of the visit was to identify with the commissioner and see how they can collaborate with him and the government to improve governance in Anambra State.
Prof. Ezenwa described Mefor, who is also a journalist, as a practising psychologist with depth who never ceased to demonstrate love for the profession. He thanked Governor Chukwuma Soludo for spotting him.
Also speaking, the Head of Psychology Department (HOD), UNIZIK, Prof. Chidozie Nwafor, explained that they have erudite professors who are experienced in research, psychoeducation, and everything that will make a state work in addressing behavioural change.
Responding, Commissioner Mefor thanked them for identifying him as one of their own, adding that he has three degrees in psychology and that he started publishing the first psychologist magazine as a young psychologist and cannot afford to take psychology for granted.
* Human rights organizations dedicated to the eradication of gender-based violence (GBV) have joined forces with various partners to advocate for justice for survivors of GBV in Anambra State.
The State Advocacy Team (SAT) of the Coalition of Civil Society Networks on AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria, along with other network partners, recently conducted an advocacy visit to the State Coordinator of Child Protection Network (CPN) in Awka, the state capital.
The Team Lead, Mrs Ifenyinwa Unachukwu, who is also the Anambra State Coordinator of TB Network, highlighted the importance of the visit in raising awareness about the prevalence of GBV in the state.
According to her, the meeting aimed to build solidarity with partners and inspire others to join the fight against GBV to create a future free from violence and discrimination.
* Members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra State Council,
have been invited to make entries for the Prof. Chinyere Stella Okunna Award for Ethical Journalism.
Comrade Chigozie Chukwuleta,
Secretary to the Committee in a release stated that It is an award endowed by foremost communication scholar and journalism educator, Professor Chinyere Okunna, to promote journalism in the best ethical tradition.
According to the release, entries are open to only registered members of the NUJ, Anambra State Council.
* Joint Security Force, begins manhut operation on armed men who murdered two police operatives on investigation activities.
The investigation commenced on Thursday in Uruagu, Nnewi North LGA.
Preliminary information reveals that the armed men started shooting sporadically on sighting the police operatives and threw an Improvised explosive into their operational vehicle. Unfortunately, two of the Operatives paid the supreme price while the vehicle caught fire.

Anambra State Command, given the above, the Command calls on members of the Public especially the eyewitnesses and other sundries to aid the ongoing Police operations in the area.
* Anambra State Commissioner for Information, Dr Law Mefor has urged Nigerians not to lose hope of achieving a better and stronger Nigeria despite the current economic hardships.
Dr Mefor, who spoke to journalists in Awka, stressed the need for all Nigerians to be committed to salvaging the country.
The Commissioner further opined that protection of lives and property and prioritizing the welfare and happiness of Nigerians are very essential to make Nigeria a better country.
He observed that the present Nigerian Government has been trying to reset the country economically and otherwise, although many of its policies are not sitting well with Nigerians and called on the Federal Government to review some of the policies or make some interventions that will make the policies more tolerable.
