Anambra Assembly Pass Herbal Practice Bill Into Law

A bill for a law to establish the Anambra State harbal practice regulatery agency
and other related matters, has been red for the third time and passed into law.

Angel Network News (ANN) reports that the House passed the bill after considering a report from the Joint House Committee on Health chaird by Hon. Tony Muobike and committee on Judiciary chaired by Hon. Patrick Okafor.

Anambra Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze who presided the sitting commended the lawmakers for their efforts and commitment in making sure that the bill was passed.

According to Udeze, the law will take effect from November 13th 2024.

The member representing Aguata two constituency Hon. Tony Muobike speaking in an interview after plenary said
the law is meant to address alot of lacuna that exist in the Practice of harbal medicine in Anambra State.

” It is primarily designed to take care of quackery and malpractice in harbal medicine.

” In Anambra State, there is no regulation, research, no data and control. People sale harbal concussion anyhow they want.

” The number of fatality in Anambra State. Many people are suffering from kidney problems, young people are dying because of harbal concussions.

” This law is designed to address the anomalies. The producers need to label the drugs so that people will know the content of what they are taking.

” We want to ensure that people get quality of what they pay for. People have been buying there death instead of medicine’. Mobuike said.

The House adjurned and to reconvene on Tuesday 5th November 2024.
