* Efforts are on-going to get data of sexual offenders from Anambra State uploaded on the National Sexual Offenders Database to serve as a deterrent especially for serial offenders.

A one-day meeting organized by Habiba Dangana Foundation with the support of the the Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption, RoLAC program 2, has been held in Nibo, Awka South Local Government Area to get the necessary actors and players drawn from government and non-governmental organizations ready for the task ahead.

Addressing the meeting entitled “Strengthening Data Systems and Collaborative Strategies for Effective Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Prevention and Response,”, the RoLAC Program Coordinator in the State, Mrs Josephine Onah, described the meeting as part of efforts towards effective implementation of the VAPP law, especially ensuring that the state has a reliable register of sex offenders.

* In a bid to ensure and impart quality educational services to all parts of the globe, Tansian University, Umunya, Nigeria and Chartered Institute of Educational Practitioners United Kingdom (CIEPUK) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding towards the exercise.

The Vice Chancellor of Tansian University Umunya, Prof Eugene Nwadialor, while expressing his concerns and support that the initiative of fostering quality education to the nooks and crannies of the world is a welcome development,stated unequivocally that his institution would deliver efficiently as expected.

He insistently stressed that Tansian University through the partnership would engender quality and robust educational services to all the potential students throughout the world.

The Vice Chancellor further described the institution as a faith based,disciplined, quality guaranteed and secret cult forbidden university with efficient,smart,well behaved enlightened and erudite Lecturers.

* Topmost football enthusiasts on Wednesday gathered at the Ifeanyi Ubah International Stadium Ozubulu Nnewi to pay last respect to Late Senator Dr Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah with a novelty match.

The match organized by the Chairman of Anambra State Football Association Gen Chikelue Iloenyosi was to pay homage and reverence to the immediate past Chairman of the Association who died late July of this year.

Iloenyosi while speaking, described late Senator Ubah as one who elevated football in the state and beyond.

* Twelve secondary schools in Anambra State at the weekend participated in the 2024 Institute of Electrical Electronics Engineering (IEEE) Nnamdi Azikiwe University Coding and Robotics competition.

The competition which witnessed display of exceptional skills, ingenuity and creativity by the schools, saw Bubendorff Memorial Grammer School, Adazi-Nnukwu, Anaocha Local Goverment Area emerging top, while UNIZIK High School beat Lorreto Special Science School, Adazi-Nnukwu to secure second position.

Speaking during the event, Chairman, Post Primary School Service Commission (PPSSC), Prof Nkechi Ikediugwu commended the IEEE for organising the competition, calling for continued provision of resources and opportunities for the students.

* A bill for a law to provide for the sum of 606, 991, 849, 118, 16 (Six hundred and six billion, nine hundred and ninty-one million, eight hundred and fourty nine thousand, one hundred and eighteen naira sixteen kobo) for services of the government of Anambra state for the year ending 31st December 2025 and for related purposes has pass through second reading.

The Majority Leader and member representing Ekwusigo Constituency Hon Ikenna Ofodeme while leading the debate
said the bill is realistic and as lawmakers they are duty bound to inter-face with agencies and ministries at the committee stage in order to make the executive achieve its aim.

Supporting the motion, Hon. Golden Iloh (Ihiala two), Hon. Anayo Okpalaeke (Aguata One), Hon. Emma Nwafor (Orumba South), Hon. Obi Nweke (Anambra East) and Hon. Tony Muobike (Aguata two) in their separate submissions commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for presenting the budget.

Anambra Assembly Speaker Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze referred the bill
to the committee on Finane and Appropriation Chaired by Hon. Ejike Okechukwu. The committee is to report back in three weeks time.

* The Anambra Special Anti-Touting Squad Agency (SASA), has won this year’s 2024: best enforcement agency award in the state.

The award was bestowed on the agency by Pechilly Investigative Limited/World Peace Advocate after a thorough online voting by various security assessment experts in Nigeria and beyond.

Speaking shortly after presenting the award to the State Director of the Agency, Hon. Solomon Chukwuebuka at SASA state headquarters Onitsha, the Chief Executive Officer of Pechilly Investigative Limited, Amb. Karen James, said SASA defeated other security agencies including the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) following their intelligence, dedication and commitment towards curbing bag snatching, pick-pocketing, illegal revenue collections and other touting activities in the state, particularly, in Onitsha and Nnewi respectively within a space of one year and one month in existence.

* The Anambra State Police Command has intercepted a protest in the form of some publications by an ex-Falcon footballer on the alleged arrest and human rights violations by some operatives of the State Police Command, investigates and moves to resolve the conflict.

The State Police Command, very concerned about the incident especially as it concerns human rights violations as alleged, invited the ex-international player and members of her team to get the facts straight.

According to a release by SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer,
Anambra State Command. “It is pertinent to note that after the necessary interview with the victims, it was discovered that the incident happened a few months ago and that there have been ongoing efforts to resolve the case between the parties concerned.

* The Child Protection Network, CPN, Anambra State, has cautioned against relationships that expose children and teenagers to sexual abuse by trusted and close relations.

A member of the network, Yohanna Rachel, gave the charge during a sensitization campaign supported by International IDEA through the Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption Program, RoLAC 2, at Nnamdi Azikiwe High School, Awka on child sexual abuse.

Yohana, while arguing that every child has a right to protection as guaranteed by the Child Rights Law and the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Law, encouraged the students not to cooperate with abusers but to expose them to face the full weight of the law.

* The CSOs/Media Accountability and Anticorruption Initiative has called for the passage of Audit and Fiscal Responsibility bills meant to strengthen the anti-corruption campaign in Anambra State.

The group, led by its interim coordinator, Ugochi Freeman, made the call during an advocacy visit to the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance, Mr Joachin Achor at the State Secretariat in Awka.

While commending the Permanent Secretary for prudent management of public resources which promotes accountability and good governance in management of public finance, appealed for his cooperation in seeing the bills to enactment.

*Tansian University, Umunya, has been ranked as the best regional university in the nation by the National Scholars Institute (NSI).

This follows recent statement from the institution indicating that admission into its various undergraduate and postgraduate programmes is still open.

According to the National Scholars Institute report, “Tansian University is the best regional university in the areas of delivering quality education, competent lecturers and adequately equipped infrastructure for easy learning.

This was the outcome of the visit by a delegation of National Scholars Institute, the organised body that has been touring the South Eastern Private Universities, when they called on the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof Eugene Nwadialor.
