* As part of activities to commemorate the 2024 World AIDS Day, the Anambra State government through the State AIDS Control Agency (ANSACA) has held a sensitization road walk in Awka metropolis to create awareness about the disease.

Speaking, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike said that Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration is determined to eradicate the prevalence of the disease in the state through efficient and effective awareness creation, provision of HIV free testing centers among others, saying that government wants to end mother to child transmission in the state.

The Executive Director, Anambra State AIDS Control Agency, Mr. Johnbosco Ementa explained that the event which is a weeklong celebration was designed to remember those who have died as a result of the disease as well as those living with it, urging people to end discrimination of against those living with HIV, even as he revealed that the agency has made provision for free HIV screening in State Secretariat, Arroma junction, UNIZIK junction, Eke Awka market among numerous others.

Earlier when the Commissioner for Health and the sensitization team paid a courtesy call on the Managing Director of the Anambra Broadcasting Service, Mr. Chris Molokwu, the Managing Director promised that ABS will continue to partner with them through efficient sensitization and awareness creation about the disease, using multiple channels of the media house.

* The Idemili South local government Mayor, Hon. Mrs Amaka Obi(Iyom Ife-Abata), has reiterated support for persons living with disabilities in the council area.

Hon. Obi stated this today as the world commemorates 2024 International Day Of Persons With Disabilities. She expressed her unwavering commitment to the well-being of the physically challenged persons in the council area.

She said, as the Mayor of Idemili South, I expressed unwavering support for the strength and resilience of those with disabilities, stating that her administration remained committed to fostering policies and programs for an enhanced standard of living. She further urged all to collaborate and build an inclusive and supportive society for all.

* Anambra State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Mrs Ify Obinabo has called on stakeholders to join hands with the state government to eliminate gender-based violence and create a safer, more inclusive society.

Obinabo made the call during the Pre-conference press briefing for the 2024 Unite Conference and sixteen days of activism against gender-based violence in Anambra State.

Obinabo explained that the sixteen days of activism against gender-based violence with the theme “Unite To End Gender-Based Violence in Anambra State”, is a global campaign aimed at raising awareness and inspiring action to eliminate violence against women and girls.

* The Chairman of Idemili South Local Government Area, Hon. Mrs Amaka Obi has inspected the ongoing road maintenance and construction of barricades at Afor Oba market, Idemili South local government area, Anambra State.

The projects attracted from the state government by Hon. Mrs Obi, is inline with zero pothole policy of Governor Chukwuma Soludo and also to ensure safety of market women.

Obi, during the inspection appreciated Soludo for his commitment to a livable, safe and healthy Anambra State.

The Mayor assured to always inspect the projects to ensure they are delivered according to specifications.

* The member representing Oyi/Ayamelum Federal Constituency, Hon. Maureen Gwacham, has extends her goodwill message to Hon. Emma Nweke, the Mayor of Oyi LGA on his recipient of honorary doctorate award by Zoe Life Theological College, USA.

Hon. Gwacham also uses this medium to affirm the good works of Iga both as the transitional chairman and Mayor of Oyi LGA, adding that the doctorate award is a well deserved one.

Hon. Emma Nweke has scored high in various sectors in Oyi ranging from health works, environmental works, educational works and lots more.

* The Anambra State Government, through the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Community Affairs, led by Hon. Tony Collins Nwabunwanne, has inaugurated Caretaker Committee members for Okpoko in Ogbaru Local Government Area.

The Committee has been mandated to oversee the affairs of the Okpoko Development Union, lay the groundwork, and conduct peaceful and credible elections under the supervision of the ministry.

The inauguration, held at the Okpoko Community Secretariat Hall, included the administration of the oath of office to the committee members by Hon. Chukwunonso Noble Igwe, the representative for Ogbaru 1 Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly.

* Anambra State Commissioner for Special Duties, Rt. Hon. Beverly Ikpeazu-Nkemdiche says creating inclusive communities for persons with disabilities is a moral imperative that demands every sense of urgency.

Rt. Hon. Ikpeazu-Nkemdiche stated this in a press statement released to journalists today in Awka to mark this year’s International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

She emphasized that beyond what the government can do in making laws, implementing and enforcing them and initiating policies that guarantee equal opportunities for people living with disabilities in every sphere of life, it behoves on every member of society to make conscious efforts to uphold the rights and welfare of vulnerable people at every minute no matter how small it might look.

* Governor Chukwuma Soludo has forwarded four bills to the Anambra State House of Assembly. Majority Leader of the House and member representing Ekwusigo Constituency, Hon. Ikenna Ofodeme presented the four bills.

The four executive bills presented by Governor Soludo are; A bill for a law to establish the Anambra State Electricity Market and the Anambra State Electricity Regulatory Commission to regulate electricity in the state in the areas of electricity generation, transmission, system operation, destruction and supply to promote access to electricity in the state and for connected purposes

A bill for a law to further amend the traditional rulers law 2007.

A bill for a law to establish the Anambra State Development And Investment Corporation to drive the development of projects through development finance and private sector funding and participation in infrastructural development and for the protection, promotion, monitoring, cordinating and assisting of current and potential investors within the state and to provide for related matters.

A bill for a law to establish and regulate the Anambra State Correctional Service, ensure human and effective management of offenders, to provide for the administration of Custodial and non-costodial services in the state and for
connected purposes.

* The Permanent Secretary of the ministry of local government and chieftancy affairs Dr. Nwabufor Nwankwo says the 2025 budget size of the ministry is 404 million.

Speaking in an interview after defending 2025 budget before the Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on local government and chieftancy affairs chaird by Hon. Patrick Udoba, Nwankwo said the ministry will improve its performance next year.

” This is the first time the ministry is going to access its budget. We now have the local government administration law. The budget is realistic and we will perform better next year 2025.

* Managing Director Anambra Physical Planning Board, Barr. Chike Maduekwe
says nobody should build after 7:pm.

Barr. Maduekwe while speaking with the press after defending his 2025 budget before Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on lands said;

” Anybody that is building must take contractor insurance. There will be proper valuation before building. Our job is to plan Anambra and control development in the state so that it doesn’t become a slump.

Chairman House Committee on lands Hon. Jude Akpua assured the Physical planning board that the 8th Assembly will assist them in making sure that they performed better in 2025.
