Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, speaking on TV with journalists about the goals and fears of Russian leader Vladimir Putin, said that the latter will die soon.
“The second thing he fears is, well, losing his power. It also depends on the stability of society, but it also depends on his years – he will die soon, that’s a fact, and everything will be over,” Zelensky told a group of journalists at Eurovision News.
Why he believes 72-year-old Putin will die “soon,” Zelensky did not clarify, and the journalists did not ask again. The overall context of the interview and the place in it of this phrase suggest that Zelensky was not referring to some very near future.
The Ukrainian president spoke about the impending death of his enemy while answering a question about what he thinks Putin is afraid of. Zelensky first speculated that Putin is afraid of destabilization of Russian society due to many factors, and then uttered the above phrase.
