* Following his recognition by the Anambra State Government earlier this year, Igwe Timothy Ifurunwa of Ihite has hosted members of Orumba South Traditional Ruler’s Council in what he called familiarization visit, during which he commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for ensuring transparency in his ascension to the throne.

During the event held at the Igwe’s Palace and attended by four past Presidents-General of the community, former cabinet members that worked with their late Igwe, and which featured installation of new cabinet members, Igwe Ifurunwa described Ihite as a town of wonderful people, and promised to reign with transparency to speed up development of the community, even as he commended the state government for installing solar lights at the community health center built through community efforts, expressing hope that roads in the community will receive government attention in due course.

Confirming Igwe Ifurunwa’s acceptance among members, the Chairman of Orumba South Traditional Rulers Council and Traditional Ruler of Owerre-Ezukala, Igwe Thomas Ogbonnaya, commended Ihite people for choosing Igwe Ifurunwa, and Governor Soludo for recognizing him.

* The Chairman Anambra State Urban Regeneration Council and pioneer Managing Director of the Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA) Arch. Michael Okonkwo says he was approached by the people of Ihite in Orumba-South LGA, to be the traditional ruler of the community during the scouting for a suitable replacement of the departed monarch Igwe B.O Ofu.

Okonkwo while speaking in his office at Awka, said he rejected the offer and didn’t fall for the temptation because on the one hand, it was not the turn of his village to produce the late Igwe’s successor and on the other hand, he would not be responsible for Igweship tussle in his community.

The former Commissioner for Housing who stated that contrary to insinuations of crisis over who occupied Ihite traditional stool as wrongly peddled in the online news media, emphasized that Ihite community now has an Igwe-elect in the person of His Royal Highness Igwe Timothy Ifurunwa, whom he said was unanimously and overwhelmingly elected by the entire people of Ihite town including himself because he was present on the day Timothy Ifurunwa was elected.

* The Chairman of a political allied group, known as Anambra Patriots for Soludo, Chief Damian Ejiamatu, has appealed to media practitioners in Anambra State to join hands with its members to spread true information about the performance of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s Administration across the state and the world

The Chairman, who made the appeal during a capacity building workshop organized by the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Anambra State Council, in partnership with the group, reminded the journalists of the agenda setting role of the media in a democratic society.

Chief Ejiamatu, who doubled as the Chairman of the occasion, told the journalists that the Anambra Patriots had an agenda to return Soludo for continuity of the good work he said Soludo was doing, pointing out that the patriots’ resolve to partner with them was for a purpose.

* The Mayor of Njikoka LGA, Barr. Chinedu Ononiba, joined the faithful at the inauguration of Ave Maria Parish, Nawfia, and the maiden pastoral visit of His Lordship, Most Rev. Paulinus Chukwuemeka Ezeokafor, Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese.

The spiritual celebration was hosted by Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Ezenwata (Parish Priest), fondly known as “Holy Man,” and witnessed the presence of several officiating priests and religious leaders.

It marked a significant milestone for the Nawfia Catholic community, with the confirmation of approximately 146 candidates, signaling growth and deepened commitment to the faith.

Barr. Ononiba was accompanied by Hon. Ngozi Okafor, Councillor representing Nawfia Ward II, and Hon. Ifeanyi Aghamba, Councillor representing Nawfia Ward I.

* As Easter celebrations unfold across the region, a recent media report has drawn criticism regarding comments attributed to the leadership of Operation Udo Ga Achi and Agunechemba, an initiative aimed at enhancing security in Anambra state.

Speaking to the Press in Awka, to clarify the situation, the Special Adviser to Governor Soludo on Community Security, Mr. Ken Emeakayi emphasized that they have been misquoted and that their message has been taken out of context.

According to the Special Adviser, they did not label their members as armed robbers or criminals, but they are only addressing concerns raised about reports of extortion allegedly committed by some individuals in the outfit.

Mr. Emeakayi emphasized that the operatives do not conduct checkpoints but operate “pin down locations” designed to create a safer environment for Ndi Anambra; an initiative that aims to enable residents to go about their daily activities without fear of crime, screen individuals on the roads, and deter criminal activities such as robbery and kidnapping.

* Prominent Catholic priest and spiritual leader, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Obimma, popularly known as Ebube Muonso has dismissed the claims of a report claiming it issued conditions to support the Anambra All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu.

It is clearly planted by desperate politicians. Politicians are free to come to us for blessing but that doesn’t translate to endorsement or giving of conditions for support towards 2025,” he said.

Meanwhile church insiders, who spoke on the incident, insist that while the Catholic Church remains an influential moral voice in Anambra, it does not issue political endorsements based on denominational quotas.

* The National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Barr. Sly Ezeokenwa has paid a heartfelt condolence visit to the family of the late Chief Emeka Alex Umeh at their country home in Amichi, Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Ezeokenwa in his condolence said the passing of Chief Maja Umeh is a profound loss not only to his immediate family, but to the entire APGA family and Anambra State at large. Chief Maja was a rare gem, whose unwavering dedication to the growth of our great party and the progress of Anambra State will be forever remembered.

“His legacy of selfless service, loyalty, and commitment continues to inspire all of us. On behalf of APGA and its entire leadership, I extend our deepest condolences and prayers to the Umeh family.

* The Councillor representing Abacha Ward and the Deputy Leader of Idemili North Legislative Council, Hon. Mathieu Obi recently at Abacha Health Centre offered free medical services to over 100 indigenes, Non indigenes and little children alike.

Some of the free services include overall health tests, such as HBP tests, blood sugar test as well as administeration of routine drugs to many sufferers who were present.

According to the health conscious Councillor, 97 persons went through X Ray, and out of these, 97 persons 22 had presumptive cases, and that the result of those cases would go through further examination to determine the true condition of their hearts, promising that a follow-up medication would be administered to them thereafter.

* The Catholic Church in Anambra State has strongly denied a report claiming it issued conditions to support the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, describing the story as “planted by desperate politicians” and “false in its entirety.”

The report, published by a national daily on Friday, April 18, 2025, alleged that the Church demanded that the APC candidate select a Catholic as running mate and appoint a cabinet with 60 percent Catholic representation as a condition for endorsement.

It also claimed that former Senators Uche Ekwunife and Margery Okadigbo were being considered for the deputy slot in line with these alleged demands.
