The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has received commendation for its steadfast commitment to respecting and protecting human rights, particularly in its proactive stance against gender-based violence.
Angel Network News (ANN) reports that
the commendation came from the Anambra State Coordinator of the commission while on an advocacy visit to Commandant Maku Olatunde, the State Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Anambra State Command at the State Headquarters Awka.
Maduforo who led a delegation of key officials of the Commission appreciated the Corps for enhancing human rights – based law enforcement practices. He noted that the visit was part of the commission’s ongoing efforts at strengthening community policing structures, reform legal frameworks affecting vulnerable populations, particularly in the context of HIV, Tuberculosis and Gender Based violence (GBV).
He affirmed the Commission’s dedication to the fight against GBV, and safeguarding vulnerable populations, emphasising the importance of partnership in achieving meaningful and lasting impact.
In response, Commandant Maku Olatunde appreciated the NHRC Anambra State Coordinator for the visit. He assured the team of the command’s readiness to support joint initiatives aimed at promoting gender inclusion, protecting human rights and empowering marginalised groups.
The NSCDC State helmsman said the Corps will maintain it’s partnership with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), fostering a conducive environment for people to enjoy their rights without discrimination.
He reiterated the NSCDC’s stance against human rights violations, particularly the public display of suspects.
