* The Coordinator, Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption, (RoLAC 2) program in Anambra State, Dr. Josephine Onah, has charged members of the Monitoring and Evaluation Committees of the State Anti-Corruption Strategy, ANSACS, to be alive to their responsibility of keeping other players on their toes.
Onah gave the charge during a two-day capacity building training for members of the M&E Committees constituted under the RoLAC 2 programme funded by the European Union and implemented by International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA).
She said the capacity building training was conceived to properly equip the M&E committee members for the task ahead of them.
* President Bola Tinubu has been conferred with the title of ‘Dike Si Mba’ by traditional rulers in Anambra State.
The title, which means ‘Hero from another land’, was conferred on Tinubu on Thursday during his official visit to Anambra state.
Tinubu was conferred with the title by the Chairman of Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council, Igwe Chidubem Iweka (Ogalagidi, Eze Iweka III), at the Dr Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka.
Igwe Iweka, while conferring the chieftaincy title on the President, said, “This is a title from all the royal fathers in the 179 communities of Anambra State.
Tinubu, in his acceptance, thanked the traditional rulers for the chieftaincy title, saying, “Our diversity must lead to prosperity; we must work together to lead Nigeria. We must commit ourselves for the development of the country.
* The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Anambra Command has offered free medical services to some drivers in the state to enhance safety of drivers and passengers.
The Deputy Corps Commander of the Command, Christy Okonkwo, in her address at the event in Awka, tagged “Beyond the Road”, said the aim is to ascertain the drivers ability to be on the roads so as to reduce road traffic crashes in the state.
Okonkwo said poor vision is major cause of road crashes globally and the corps would ensure that only drivers with excellent vision drive on Anambra roads to avoid unnecessary carnage.
She said that all their efforts were focused on ensuring the safety of both drivers and passengers and that the commander was committed to ensuring that everyone behind the wheel was medically fit to transport passengers safely to their destinations.
* The Anambra State Police Command has taken over the scene of a tragic incident involving the sudden death of four siblings at Ogidi, Idemili North Local Government Area, following a suspected case of food poisoning.
Upon receiving the distress report, police operatives from Ogidi Division swiftly responded to the scene.
According to SP. Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Command, the bodies of the deceased children were recovered and have since been deposited at the morgue for preservation and autopsy.
Meanwhile, the mother of the victims, who also reportedly consumed the same meal, is currently receiving intensive medical care at a hospital and remains in critical condition.
* A medical Ophthalmologist, Dr. Onyinyechi Umeojiakor says poor vision increases the risk of collisions as the driver might not see other vehicles in time.
Speaking during a free medical services by FRSC to some drivers in Awka, Anambra State to enhance safety of drivers and passengers, Umeojiakor said when a person’s visual acuity is compromised, they cannot operate a vehicle effectively.
“Clear eyesight is essential for safe driving. Poor vision often leads to poor driving, which is a major contributor to road accidents. So, commercial and private drivers must ensure their eyes are optimum before driving,” he said.
* The Executive Chairman of Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB) Dr. Vera Nwadinobi has called for a stronger collaboration with community stakeholders of hard to reach areas in the state.
Nwadinobi made the call during a courtesy visit to Anambra East and West Local Government Education Authority to inaugurate the elected representatives of School Based Management Committee (SBMC).
She stated that the engagement was part of ASUBEB’s broader campaign to reduce the number of out of school children in Anambra.
* The local government stage of 2025 Anambra Solution Sports Initiative has kicked- off in the 21 local government areas of the State.
The Local Government stage will be rounded up on Friday, 9th May, 2025.
Information from across all the Local Government Areas shows that most of events are been competed for fiercely.
* President Tinubu arrived at Chinua Achebe International Airport in Umueri at about 12:15 pm and was received by Governor Chukwuma Soludo, Deputy Governor Onyeka Ibezim, and other top government officials.
During the visit, the President inaugurated several landmark projects, including Anambra’s first-ever Government House—over three decades after the state’s creation.
The visit also included the commissioning of other key infrastructure projects executed under Governor Soludo’s administration.
This marks President Tinubu’s second visit to the South-East region in 2025, following his trip to Enugu State in January.
