Amaechi Shocks 2027 Race: ‘I’m Not Stepping Down for Anyone’

Former Rivers State Governor and Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has firmly announced his intention to contest the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primary, vowing not to step aside for any aspirant. His move signals a high-stakes showdown ahead of the 2027 election.

Speaking to journalists in Kano State after a meeting with trader coalitions, Amaechi removed any lingering doubt:

“I will contest the ADC presidential primary, and by God’s grace, I hope to win so that I can face Tinubu in 2027. I am not stepping down for anyone. Let the people decide who they want to lead.”

He urged the party to uphold internal democracy:

“As a democratic party, we cannot deny anyone the right to contest … Once our timetable is released, anyone interested … will be free to purchase nomination forms and take part in the primaries.”

Amaechi did not mince words in his critique of the ruling administration, arguing that dissatisfaction and hardship are pervasive across the nation, not just the South. “Time is up. Nigerians are tired,” he asserted.

Despite political whispers that his home turf in Rivers may have eroded, Amaechi pointed to the massive, unpaid turnout at a recent ADC rally as testament to his enduring influence.
