Veteran Nigerian television host Morayo Afolabi-Brown has publicly acknowledged that her earlier criticism of former Anambra Governor Peter Obi stemmed from a lack of understanding of his achievements in office.
Speaking in an interview with Chude Jideonwo shared on Instagram on Saturday, Afolabi-Brown said she had been unaware of Obi’s contributions to public service at the time of her remarks.
“It was because I did not know him. After I made that comment, people called me and said, ‘Morayo, do you realise that when he was governor, he actually served us?’ So that was him. I said, ‘Oh, I did not know,’” she recalled.
The TV personality also reflected on a previous episode in her career involving her dismissal from TVC. She revealed that it was only after President Bola Tinubu learned her identity—that she was the daughter of the late leader Alao Aka-Bashorun—that her situation changed.
“People now call Asiwaju, ‘Do you know whose child was sacked?’ He said, ‘I’m not aware.’ He said, ‘This is the Alao Aka-Bashorun’s daughter. That’s when he knew it was me,” she related.
Afolabi-Brown additionally revisited controversies in her career, including backlash over a live television segment where she was accused of calling her husband a pedophile. She credited the First Lady’s intervention for helping her reconcile and issue a public apology.
