Van Dijk’s Stoppage-Time Header Seals Liverpool’s 3-2 Win Over Atlético

Virgil van Dijk rose highest in the 92nd minute to head home a corner and snatch a dramatic 3-2 victory for Liverpool over Atlético Madrid in their Champions League opener at Anfield.

Liverpool surged ahead inside six minutes through a deflected Robertson strike and a solo goal from Mohamed Salah. Marcos Llorente responded just before halftime and again in the 81st minute to level the match.

Atletico manager Diego Simeone was sent off late after being restrained during heated exchanges with fans. The game also marked the debut of Liverpool’s record signing, Alexander Isak, who played until being substituted in the second half.

Liverpool, known this season for late-game winners, now sit atop their Champions League group after a stirring start.
