# Anambra Assembly Speaker Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze has commended Prof. Chukwuma Soludo for his pragmatic contributions to the development of the country both as former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and now Governor of Anambra State.
Udeze in his Independence day message urged Nigerians to trust in God and pray that God will intervene in the prevailing difficulties and problems facing the masses especially the economic challenges and insecurity, and also pray to God to touch the hearts of the leaders to lead with the fear of God.
The Speaker called on the citizenry irrespective of their tribe or religion to make meaningful efforts to ensure a stronger and more prosperous Nigeria, and also see the growth and development of the country as a collective project, noting that one united and indivisible nation is far better than a fragmented entity.
He expressed optimism that Nigeria will witness a brighter future, appealing to the citizens to shun acts capable of smearing the image of the country, but to uphold only those things that will uplift the people and unite the nation.
# A Joint Operatives from the Anambra State Police Command Tactical Team has rescued kidnapped victim, following a swift and coordinated operation at Oba/Ojoto axis.
Seven hours after he was abducted by armed criminals at Umuru Village, Nnobi, the criminal elements had earlier demanded a ransom of ₦10,000,000 (Ten Million Naira) only.
According to SP. Tochukwu Ikenga, the
Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Command, through a press conference, the Joint Command Tactical teams, on an intelligence-led operation were immediately deployed to the location for aggressive and extensive combing.
“Under the pressure of the advancing rescue operation, the kidnappers hastily released the victim and fled into nearby bushes. The victim was rescued unharmed, debriefed, and has since been reunited with his family.
“Meanwhile, the Operatives are currently working on some clues for the possible arrest of the fleeing hoodlums’. Ikenga stated.
Reacting, the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP. Ikioye Orutugu, commended the operatives for their swift action and reassured Anambra residents of the Command’s unwavering commitment to fighting crime, protecting lives, and ensuring public safety.
# The Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra State Council, has congratulated Mr. Obini Onuchukwu on his appointment as the Registrar of the Federal Polytechnic, Ohodo, Enugu State.
In a statement signed by its Chairman, Chuks Ilozue, and Secretary, Lucy Osuizigbo-Okechukwu, the Chapel described Onuchukwu’s appointment as “well-deserved,” noting that it was a recognition of his years of dedication, professional integrity, and outstanding contributions to academic and administrative development.
The journalists expressed confidence that Onuchukwu’s wealth of experience, foresight, and passion for excellence would enhance growth and bring greater prestige to the Federal Polytechnic, Ohodo.
# Anambra Government has set aside
Three Point Five billion naira as an empowerment grant for eight thousand, three hundred youths from Anambra and outside the state under the One Youth, Two Skills Plus Solution Initiative.
Governor Chukwuma Soludo, who stated this during the graduation and certification ceremony for the successful youths out of the one hundred and eighty three thousand applicants, said that a few billions have equally been set aside for the Anambra Small Business Agency, to give loans to interested beneficiaries.
Soludo while speaking at the event which was held at the International Convention Centre, Awka, recalled that the programme was launched in October 2022, pointing out that the programme is in line with his manifesto promise of raising one thousand youth millionaires, annualy and described the programme as stomach infrastructure on a sustainable basis.
In his remark, the Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr. Patrick Aghamba expressed delight that the programmes is growing from strength to strength, stating that it is already transforming the lives and destinies of thousands of youths.
For the Chairman, One Youth Two Skills Entrepreneurship Scheme, Professor Chinedu Onyeizugbe who spoke earlier, the programme has recorded a forty eight percent increase, proposed it as a model to all scholars and practitioners, adding that each graduation ceremony is a move towards realising the vision where every Anambra youth is well equipped with requisite skills for their survival.
# The Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze has said that though Nigeria is yet to get to the level of people’s dreams, the country has recorded some landmark achievements in infrastructural developments as well as skilled and qualified manpower in virtually all fields of human endeavour since the colonial masters left the shores.
The Speaker while felicitating Nigerians on the occasion of the celebration of the 65 years of Independence, paid glowing tributes to the founding fathers who fought and won the country’s Independence in 1960 for their love and sacrifice towards the corporate existence and peace of the country.
Rt. Hon. Udeze enjoined the people to strive to harness their human and material resources in a way and manner that would engender development of the country in all ramifications.
The Anambra State Number One Lawmaker, assured that the State Legislature being an integral part of the country’s legislative body, will always be guided by the genuine wishes and aspirations of the citizenry towards the enactment of people oriented and development driven laws and other sundary duties.
# The candidate of Action Alliance (AA) for the November 8, 2025 governorship election in Anambra state, Ozo Japhet Ezechukwu Nweke says INEC is not the main actor in this vote buying issue.
Nweke, a political scientist, security expert and real estate developer in an interview maintained that the party and candidate representatives and those backing them that are involved.
“The people accepting the monies for their votes is also the issue because it is a two-way thing. I think there is a lot of work to be done in this regard by all the political players in the exercise. There is need for serious enlightenment programmes to make our people understand the need to shun vote buying at all levels”. Nweke submitted.

Impressed by the Mayor’s performance and the leadership style as a gentleman with every true meaning of the word, Dr. Chidi Okoye revealed that he is now seriously considering joining the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
He emphasized that if more politicians were like Ononiba in terms of transparent, accessible, and committed to service, politics in Nigeria would be more meaningful and impactful.
# A former President General of Nsugbe community, Hon. Simeon Ogude, has protested his suspension from the Nsugbe Security Management and Finance Committee, describing it as gross illegality aimed at maligning and defaming his character.
Reacting to his suspension, Hon Ogude explained that he is a member of the committee duly inaugurated by the Anambra East Council Chairman, Hon. Ifeanyi Chinweze, and that his membership of the committee is for him to contribute his quota in directing and assisting with practical mechanism to protect the citizenry, as well preventing criminalities within the community.
Speaking on matters of unprofessionalism and incompetence on the part of the security personnel, Hon. Ogude maintained that the management of security affairs within the community should be in line with established laws of the state.
