Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence arm, XAI, is reportedly developing a new knowledge platform called Grokipedia intended to rival Wikipedia, sources say.
Unlike Wikipedia’s crowdsourced model, Grokipedia will be automated and AI-powered, with data sourced from X’s algorithmic systems to generate articles, definitions, and explanations. Musk believes this could reduce what he sees as bias or editorial gatekeeping.
The move comes amid growing debate around the neutrality, censorship, and control of knowledge. Musk has long criticized Wikipedia and major social platforms for alleged ideological distortions, and Grokipedia represents a test of whether AI can “democratize” reference content.
How Grokipedia will enforce accuracy, guard against misinformation, and manage contentious topics remains unclear. But the platform’s launch could shift the balance of power in how people consume encyclopedic knowledge online — especially in regions with limited access to vetted source material.
