# Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command attached to the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, acting on credible intelligence, stormed Aguleri and arrested four suspected members of a criminal gang allegedly involved in armed robbery and kidnapping in the area.
The suspects all males between the ages of 22 and 40 years include: Uchenna Aniegboka, Sunday Nwakalor, Chukwuebuka Aniegbunam and Onyebuchi Udemba.
In a press release SP. Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer,
Anambra State Command, stated that
during the Operations, One pump action gun and one black Toyota Camry car with registration. No. SMK 835 FC were recovered.
“The Case shall be charged to court on the conclusion of the investigations’. Ikenga stated.
To this end, while the suspects are still undergoing interrogation, the Commissioner of Police, CP. Ikioye Orutugu, reaffirms the Command’s commitment to ensuring that criminal elements have no hiding place in the State. He further urged members of the public to continue to provide timely information to the Police to aid in the fight against crime.
# Chikelue Iloenyosi, Chairman of the Anambra State Football Association (ANSFA) has stated that his administration is focused on football growth in the state through putting up programmes and activities that will engage the youths meaningfully.
The top football administrator stated this during a press briefing with Journalists in Awka at the ANSFA Secretariat.
Iloenyosi stated that under his watch his vision is to interface with Anambra talented youths through football activities by engaging them meaningfully in order to stem the tide of social vices, quell any form of youth restiveness and harness their talents and youthful energy positively.
Responding on the recent accusations by one Iyke Igbokwe, Chief Iloenyosi averred that his administration has no time for detractors who have no meaningful contributions to make towards football development in the state but are only concerned about their selfish desires and quest to reap where they did not sow.
Chief Iloenyosi pointed out that Iyke Igbokwe is a rabble-rouser in the business of destructive criticism against the National Sports Commission (NSC), Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the ANSFA owing to his non-involvement in their activities after his push to be part of the reputable organizations all failed.
# Umuawulu community in Awka South LGA organized a civic reception in honor of an illustrious son of the community, Chief Christopher Ndubisi, for his development support to the community.
Speaking at the event, members of Umuawulu Ambassadors Association, led by Evangelist Reginald Okpala eulogized the philanthropist for his footprints in the community and others within and outside the state.
Thanking the philanthropist popularly known as “Ikenga Umauwulu” over his community development efforts, the Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Chief Victor Umeh, said the senatorial district under his leadership and the Anambra government would continually identify with and support causes that improve the welfare of the people.
# Police has debunk a publication by Punch Newspapers credited to one Mr. Salaudeen Hashim alleging that Anambra State has recorded fourteen (14) cases of political assassinations between 2022 and 2024.
Reacting, SP. Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer Anambra State through a press release stated that the Command wishes to categorically state that this claim is not only false, misleading, and unfounded, but also a product of the writer’s imagination.
“Ordinarily, the Command would not have responded to such baseless allegations. However, for the sake of public confidence, relative peace, and the safety currently being enjoyed not only in Anambra State, but across the South-East region, it has become necessary to set the record straight.
“It is, therefore, important to note that while the State has recorded some security incidents, these incidents were not targeted at any individual, tribe, social status, or political assassinations as mischievously claimed. Rather, they were attacks perpetrated by criminal elements hiding under the guise of self-styled agitators, common enemies of the State and other non-state actors whose activities are being consistently confronted and dismantled by security agencies.
“To further stress this publication as malicious, and mischievous, the places mentioned in the publication as supposed high-risk Local Government areas for election not to hold which include Ihiala, Ogbaru, Nnewi South, Orumba North, and Onitsha North were where the recently concluded non-violent Anambra South Senatorial and State House of Assembly bye-elections took place respectively in the State.
“The Command, in collaboration with sister security agencies, has remained proactive and relentless in addressing such threats. Our operations have significantly reduced violent crimes across the State and Anambra remains one of the most peaceful States in the South-East”. Ikenga stated.
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu reassures Ndi Anambra and the general public of the Command’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property. He further calls on the media to avoid sensational publications capable of creating unnecessary fear or misrepresenting the security situation in the State.
The CP urges residents to disregard the false claims and continue to partner with security agencies by providing credible information to sustain the peace and security of Anambra State.
# The Area Manager of the Industrial Training Fund (ITF), Awka Area Office, Mrs. Gloria Ekwuruke, says graduates without jobs are finding hope in the skills development programmes of the fund.
According to Ekwuruke, one of such programmes is the ITF–Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA) Technical Skills Development Project (TSDP), which is on-going nationwide.
Ekwuruke while speaking on the TSDP, the Area Manager commended the commitment and resilience of trainees participating in the programme which she described as a practical tool for tackling unemployment in Nigeria.
The Area Manager said the training, which began on July 1, 2025, has equipped participants with both soft and technical skills that will empower them for self-reliance.
The four-month training ends in October with a graduation ceremony where trainees will showcase their project work.
# The Founder of Ide Global Movement, Chief Azubuike Austin Ekweozor; popularly known as “Ide Umuawulu”, has been initiated into the “Ozo Owulu Ebeteghete”, a revered traditional Chieftaincy ceremony in Umuawulu and Mbaukwu communities.
The event took place at the Ide Umuawulu Palatial Residence in Agbana village, Umuawulu, Awka South Council Area in the presence of a multitude of family members, traditional rulers, red-cap Chiefs, the religious, associates, friends and well wishers who included Peter Cardinal Okpalaeke, Bishop Jonas Benson-Okoye, Traditional Rulers of Umuawulu, Igwe Joel Egwuonwu, Igwe Michael Ngene, Ezeike Nibo, Chief Damian Okeke-ogene, Anambra Head of Service, Barrister Theodora Igwegbe, among others.
Chief Ekweozor, also known as “Nwa Anayo Eze”, after his initiation into the Ozo Owulu Ebeteghete, took the title name of “Ozo Eji Amatu n’Umuawulu’.
# Idemili South Campaign Team led by Director General, who is the Chairman of the campaign, Chief Ikenna Iyiegbu, the Co-Chairman, who is the Mayor of idemili South, Dr. Mrs Amaka Obi and the Secretary of the campaign, who is the party Chairman in idemili South, Chief Kizito Anoliefo says Governor Chukwuma Soludo, is committed in making the state a safe haven for all, irrespective of political affiliations.
They made this statement in an Independence Day message, stating that Governor Soludo is committed to entrenching the dividends of democracy and making things better for Ndi Anambra.
They thanked patriotic people of idemili South and Anambra state in general for their support for APGA which had made it the largest political party in the State.
# The first ever Anambra State Markets Amalgamated Traders’ Association, (ASMATA) women football competition has been flagged off in Onitsha, the commercial city of the state.
The flag off which which was performed by ASMATA President General, Chief Humphrey Anuna at Godwin Achebe Stadium, Fegge, Onitsha, attracted sportsmen and women, traders, stakeholders, among others.
Speaking at the event, Anuna said the competition was in line with Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s vision for healthy living through citizens’, especially women involvement in physical exercises performed by men to feel belonged and not isolated.
According to him, sponsor of the competition and Chief Executive Officer, Pineleaf Estate and Properties Ltd, Archbishop Onyeka Nzekwesi accepted to make the traders happy as a result of his love for sports and need for exercise. He appreciated the Archbishop for his philanthropy, expressing joy that the cleric has changed several lives for the better.
