Ghana Secures Fifth World Cup Berth as Qualifier Closes

Monaco Star Salisu Helps Black Stars Edge Comoros, Topping Group I with Dominant Performance.

The Ghana national football team, the Black Stars, has secured their place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup after defeating the Comoros 1-0 in Accra on the final day of the African qualifiers. This victory marks the fifth time Ghana will participate in the prestigious global tournament, following appearances in 2006, 2010, 2014, and 2022.

The decisive win on Sunday, October 12, concluded a successful qualifying campaign that saw the team, led by coach Otto Addo, demonstrate “great consistency” in Group I. Ghana finished firmly in first place with 25 points, powered by a record of eight wins, one draw, and only one defeat.

Defender Mohammed Salisu, who plays for AS Monaco, was highlighted for his crucial contributions, particularly in the final matches. The report praised the defender for being “solid, focused and decisive” throughout the campaign. Salisu proved his offensive value just days earlier in a key 5-0 victory against the Central African Republic, where he “opened the scoring with a perfectly placed header from a corner.”

Tottenham midfielder Mohammed Kudus was noted as a key leader for the Black Stars, helping the team distance itself from closest rivals Madagascar (19 points), Mali (18 points), and the Comoros (15 points) in the final stretch.

Ghana will now look ahead to next summer as the first major African nation confirmed for the joint hosted World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
