Abia State Governor Alex Otti has issued a stark warning to political actors allegedly plotting to rig the 2027 governorship election, urging them to “write their will” instead of attempting to subvert the people’s mandate.
Speaking at the monthly “Alex Otti Speaks to Abians” programme held at the Government House, Umuahia, Otti challenged those around him who purportedly claim they would “take over the state” by manipulating election results. He stated:
“If they truly want to write result, they should write something else before that time… you know what it is? Their will.”
The governor emphasized that while he has no objection to anyone contesting, attempts to rig the election would be met with resistance from both the people and state institutions.
Otti’s statement comes amid speculation that the APC may seek to reclaim the state, and follows remarks attributed to the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, about APC’s plans in Abia. The governor reaffirmed that the will of the people and divine providence would determine the outcome, not manipulation.
He reiterated that early campaigning before INEC formally opens the exercise would be unlawful, cautioning that such acts could lead to disqualification. Otti’s bold remarks deepen the political atmosphere in Abia as preparations for 2027 begin.
