Okakpu Kicks-Off With Blazing Start, Engages Njikoka Stakeholders

The new Mayor of Njikoka Local Government Area, Hon. Dr. Ikechukwu Okakpu, has hit the ground running barely days after assuming office, engaging key stakeholders and sectors across the six communities that make up the Local Government Area.

Since taking office on Monday, Dr. Okakpu has embarked on a series of engagements focused on security, markets, community relations, political inclusion and effective administration.

As part of his early activities, the Mayor toured markets across Njikoka to assess their condition firsthand and issued directives aimed at improving cleanliness, sanitation, orderliness and security within the market environments.

He also convened a meeting with heads of the various security agencies operating in Njikoka LGA, where discussions centred on strengthening inter-agency collaboration and developing practical strategies to enhance the safety of residents, businesses and communities.

In a bid to promote broader political inclusion, Dr. Okakpu also met with former councillors, assuring them of their continued relevance and inclusion in party activities and engagements.

The Mayor has further intervened in a communal leadership crisis in one of the communities, initiating a process aimed at achieving a peaceful resolution through evidence, dialogue and engagement with all parties involved rather than confrontation.

On the administrative front, Dr. Okakpu has constituted and announced key members of his core team, including the Chief of Staff, Secretary to the Mayor, Security Chief, Chief Press Secretary, as well as Special Assistants to the Mayor and Deputy Mayor.

Beyond these formal engagements, the Mayor has received and met with numerous individuals and delegations from communities across Njikoka, listening to their concerns and discussing areas of cooperation with the Local Government Council.

His first few days in office have therefore been characterised by field inspections, security consultations, stakeholder engagements, administrative appointments and community interventions.

As the administration settles into office, attention will now turn to how these early engagements are translated into sustained programmes, policies and measurable improvements in the lives of residents across Njikoka.
