# House of Representatives Committee Chairman on Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring, Hon. Boma Goodhead has expressed deep satisfaction with the remarkable industrial strides recorded by Zobis Cable Nig. Ltd, Onitsha, Anambra State.
Hon. Goodhead made the commendation on Thursday, October 16, when she led a delegation of the committee members to an oversight function to the manufacturing firm.
The lawmaker expressed satisfaction over the cable manufacturer’s adherence to the principles of the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development Act, through deployment of modern production technologies, and its ambitious drive toward value addition and import substitution.
The Committee Chairman noted that what is happening in Zobis Cable Nig. Ltd aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s renewed national drive for industrial transformation through the Presidential Directives on “Nigeria’s First Goods and Services.”
She assured Zobis Cable and other indigenous manufacturers that the National Assembly would continue to provide the necessary legislative and policy backing to enhance local production, attract further investment, and ensure that Nigerian products receive due recognition and patronage from major operators and regulators in the oil and gas industry.
# The MD/CEO of the Anambra State ICT Agency, Chukwuemeka Fred Agbata, has extolled Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, for his unwavering commitment to technology adoption in Anambra State, a vision that has positioned the state as a shining example of digital governance in Nigeria.
This recognition follows Anambra’s outstanding performance at the Nigeria GOVTECH Gala & Awards 2025, where the state clinched two prestigious honours at the Presidential Banquet Hall, Abuja.
The Anambra State Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning emerged as Best State MDA in Technology-Driven Governance, while the Anambra State Bureau of Public Procurement received the Excellence in Digital Public Procurement Award. The Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Chiamaka Nnake, and the DG of BPP, Okechukwu Ezeobi, also received Trailblazer Awards for exemplary leadership.
Speaking on the win, Agbata commended his colleagues for working closely with the Agency to deepen technology adoption, and reaffirmed the ICT Agency’s commitment to powering the digital infrastructure that supports efficient and transparent government operations in line with Governor Soludo’s “Everything Technology, Technology Everywhere” mantra.
# His Royal Majesty, Igwe Nnaemeka Alfred Achebe, the Obi of Onitsha, celebrates his 23rd Ofala Festival today and tomorrow.
During the event, the Obi makes three symbolic appearances: greeting his people, receiving homage from the Ndi-Ichie, and performing the iwa ji (new yam ritual) before leading the royal dance.
More than a celebration, Ofala represents Igbo pride, unity, and the continuity of Onitsha’s royal heritage.
# The second batch of beneficiaries of the 1Youth2Skill initiative under Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration who have successfully completed their training were in Njikoka Local Government headquarters.
In a ceremony held to mark their graduation, the Mayor of Njikoka LGA, Barr. Chinedu Ononiba, expressed heartfelt congratulations to the graduands and reaffirmed the commitment of the Soludo-led government to youth empowerment across Anambra State.
Addressing the beneficiaries, Ononiba assured them that the financial support released by the state government will be fully disbursed to them as promised today. He emphasized that the funds are not just assistance but an investment into their future, urging them to make judicious use of the resources to build sustainable businesses and create job opportunities for others in the community.
# The British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Dr. Richard Montgomery, and his team have visited Anambra state ahead of the November 8th governorship election.
Dr. Montgomery while speaking when he paid a courtesy call on the Managing Director of Anambra Broadcasting Service, ABS, Mr. Chris Molokwu, in his office in Awka, revealed that their mission is to play a vibrant role in ensuring a free, fair and credible governorship election.
Exchanging views with Mr. Molokwu and his management, Dr. Montgomery said that he is delighted to be in Anambra, and that they have strong interest in understanding the due process that would be followed during the election by knowing the various agencies that will play roles in the election such as the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, the Police, Civil Society Monitors, among others.
The High Commissioner to Nigeria, noted that they are not partisan as they believe that democracy is very important in Nigeria, saying that the state has a long standing tradition of holding vibrant political debates during an election, and that they want to see the same democratic process upheld during this election, urging Anambra electorates to vote wisely during the election.
Welcoming his guests, Mr. Molokwu noted that the state is known for its hospitality and has a Governor that is highly innovative and accommodative, and has made the forthcoming Anambra governorship election very easy for all political parties by creating a conductive atmosphere and a level playing ground for all.
The ABS Managing Director further stated that Anambra is dominated by the All Progressives Grand Alliance; having governed the state for about two decades now, and prayed for a peaceful and credible election, while urging INEC to do their job without fear or favour.
# Ahead of the November 8, 2025 governorship election in Anambra State, the International Press Centre, IPC in collaboration with the Centre for Media and Society, CEMESO with the support by the European Union is holding a two-day forum on “Enhanced Reportage, Inclusivity, and Accountability of Stakeholders towards Anambra Poll.
The event, held in Awka for reporters, news editors and heads of media organisations was to deepen civic and voter participation with funding by the European Union under Component 4: Support to Democratic Governance in Nigeria-Phase 2 (EU-SDGN II).
Welcoming the participants, the Executive Director, IPC, Mr. Lanre Arogundade noted that election is the bedrock of a democratic society, pointing out that the need to retrain journalists on ethical, and professional reportage of election would enhance accountability and participatory democracy.
In a remark, the Executive Director, CEMESO, Dr. Akin Akingbulu noted that the event was aimed at guiding the journalists to renew a conversation between those who seek to govern and those who elect the leaders by upholding media freedom, amplifying voices and deepening electoral integrity so as to secure peace over polarization.
# Ndigbo have been advised to shun any acts that may expose them to unnecessary danger during the planned protest by human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore to demand for the release of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
The call was made by Igbo youth leaders and stakeholders, after their emergency meeting in Awka, Anambra State Capital.
Addressing a World Press Conference in Awka, the Igbo Youth leaders and stakeholders expressed their solidarity and support for the conveners of the planned October 20th peaceful protest o demand the release of Kanu, noting that they have been making the call for Kanu’s release for a long time now.
The acting National Youth Leader of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Mazi Chukwuma Okpalaezeukwu, who spoke on behalf of the Igbo youth leaders, said they see the development as a National action against injustice, calling on other ethnic regions and all lovers of justice, to join the demand for Kanu’s unconditional release.
Okpalaezeukwu called on ndigbo, home and abroad, to ensure absolute proper conduct of themselves so as not to fall victim of any unforeseen circumstances, insisting that Mazi Kanu will not want any innocent blood to be shed on his behalf.
# The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) RS5.31A Upper Iweka Outpost responded to a fatal crash on the Owerri-Onitsha Road on Thursday, 16th October, 2025.
The incident involved a Keke (tricycle) and a trailer, resulting in the deaths of two adult males. A total of four adult males were involved in the crash, with two others rescued uninjured.
Eyewitnesses reported that the cause of the crash was a poorly maintained section of the road, which caused the trailer’s container to fall onto the tricycle.
The FRSC tow van was employed to lift the trailer off the Keke, allowing for the clearance of the obstruction.
Reacting, Corps Commander Bridget Asekhauno, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Anambra State Command, expressed her sadness over the incident.
