The Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) for Zone 13 Ukpo, AIG. Abayomi Peter Oladipo, alongside other senior officers of his management team, hosted a delegation from the National Peace Committee (NPC).

the meeting, held at the Zonal Headquarters in Ukpo, Dunukofia LGA, focused on collaborative efforts ahead of the November 2025 off-cycle gubernatorial election in Anambra State.
The high-level delegation was led by Rev. Fr. Atta Barkindo, Executive Director of The Kukah Centre and Head of Secretariat for the NPC.
In his remarks, AIG Oladipo commended the NPC for its pivotal role in fostering peaceful elections across Nigeria. He reiterated his supervisory mandate over the police commands within Zone 13, which includes Anambra State, and provided assurances of the Force’s preparedness.
“The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State keeps me fully briefed on the evolving situation in the build-up to the governorship election. I can confirm that Anambra State is relatively peaceful, and our personnel are on high alert and ever ready to ensure security and order”, stated AIG Oladipo.
In his closing remarks, the AIG advised all electoral stakeholders to abide by the rule of law and adhere to principles of a peaceful electoral process. He also expressed his appreciation to the founder of the National Peace Committee for their steadfast commitment to democracy in Nigeria.
In his speech, Rev. Fr. Atta Barkindo revealed that the committee, established in 2015, is tasked with promoting peaceful elections, mitigating conflicts, and safeguarding the integrity of Nigeria’s democratic processes.
“Primarily, the objectives of the visit were to solicit the AIG’s valuable insights as a key security stakeholder for a peace-building initiative and to extend a formal invitation to a Peace Accord signing ceremony.
“This ceremony will bring together all stakeholders and political parties to commit to a violence-free election”. Barkindo stated.
The meeting concluded on a positive note, with the Nigeria Police Force, Zone 13 Ukpo, and the National Peace Committee demonstrating a unified commitment and strategic alignment towards achieving a peaceful, free, and fair gubernatorial election in Anambra State come November 2025.
Part of the NPC delegation included Barrister Asabe Ndahi – Project Manager, Regina Dogo – Project Officer, Dorathy Danladi – Media & Communication Officer, Deborah Obafemi – Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, and Mark Mathias – Procurement Officer.
