Customs Intercept Two Containers of Drugs Worth Over ₦5.3bn at Tin Can Port

The Nigeria Customs Service at Tin Can Island Command has seized two containers filled with vehicles concealing illicit drugs valued at approximately ₦5.304 billion, officials announced Saturday.

Customs Controller Onyeka said the haul was intercepted following intelligence on suspicious cargo. He explained that “the drugs were concealed in vehicles within the containers” and that the valuation rose from the baseline ₦4.3 billion due to “packaging and concealment complexities.”

The seized narcotics are now under forensic inspection and will be transferred to relevant law enforcement agencies for further investigation and prosecution.

This arrest is one of the largest drug interceptions in recent months at Nigeria’s busiest port, highlighting ongoing challenges in border security and efforts to stem narcotics trafficking.
