# The Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) says the nation’s healthcare system is system that is overstretched, underfunded, and underperforming.

President of NMA, Prof. Bala Audu said this at the opening ceremony of the 2025 Physicians’ Week of NMA, Anambra Branch in Nnewi on Tuesday.

Prof. Audu said there was an urgent need to strengthen every link in the healthcare value chain with well crafted and evidence-based policies in order to link Primary Healthcare, secondary, and tertiary facilities for effective delivery.

Audu who was represented by Dr. Princeton Okam, Chairman of NMA in Anambra said the doctors and other health professionals worked under unfavourable conditions.

# The local government Chairman of Njikoka, Barr. Chinedu Ononiba has commissioned a brand-new Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Nimo Ward II.

Speaking at the event, Hon. Ononiba maintained that the facility, a flagship project of his administration, was built to strengthen grassroots healthcare delivery and ensure residents of Nimo and nearby communities have access to basic and emergency health services.

The Mayor revealed that the PHC is equipped to offer antenatal and postnatal care, immunization, outpatient services, and health education.

Anambra Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Mrs. Chiamaka Nnake, while performing the official commissioning, praised Mayor Ononiba for prioritizing healthcare and aligning his local development agenda with that of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration.

Hon. Nnake noted that the initiative reflects APGA’s people-centered governance style, particularly in the health sector where reforms and infrastructure upgrades are key to improving overall wellbeing.

# In his speech titled, ‘Legal Ethics and Professionalism’ at Residency Hotel, Ogidi during the NBA, Idemili Bar Law week, the Administrative Judge Idemili Judicial Division, Hon. Justice Alexius O. Okuma stressed on the need for lawyers to reacquaint themselves with the Code of Conduct of the legal profession which is a hand book for their safety if they want to remain in practice or achieve success and prominence.

Justice Okuma said that maintaining ethical conduct will boost the confidence of the lawyers before their clients thereby making the profession more profitable, protect lawyers from unnecessary harm and expedite justice delivery and dispensation.

Some of the ethics addressed include improper dressing both within and outside the court room, Absence from court without official notice, Conduct in the face of court, Lawyer holding brief for another lawyer, frivolous objections and petitions for transfer of cases to delay the time of the court, adding Barrister as a title before their name, Visiting clients house or a beer parlor instead of receiving the client at the law office, Ride-sharing for a trip with a client.

According to Okuma, Code of Conduct is a handbook for your safety. For instance, if your client is not proud of you because of the way you dress or visit the beer parlor he would dump you for another lawyer who looks more responsible. Don’t after collecting transport fee join a litigant in his car or give him a ride because there could be devastating consequences.

# The leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra State Council, led by it’s Chairman Dr. Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, paid a courtesy visit to the new management of Fides Media, seeking to forge a stronger partnership and collaboration in the media industry.

During the visit, Comrade Odogwu emphasized the importance of solidarity among journalists and encouraged Fides Media to partner with the NUJ in promoting shared goals and driving innovation in the media sector. He assured the management of Fides Media of the Union’s unwavering support, stating that the partnership would enhance professional growth and development.

The Secretary of the NUJ, Comrade Okechukwu Onuegbu, appreciated the initiative behind the visit and noted that Fides Media, as a reputable media brand, could play a pivotal role in helping journalists access training funds and grants from national and international organizations. He highlighted that collaboration with Fides Media would open doors for more professional development opportunities, enhancing the skills and competencies of journalists in the state.

For his part, the Director of Fides Media, Rev. Fr. Mark Obiorah Ikeh, expressed his gratitude for the visit, describing it as a commendable gesture of solidarity. He welcomed the idea of partnership between Fides Media and NUJ, noting that both organizations share a common mission of promoting credible information dissemination and professional journalism.

Rev. Fr. Ikeh reiterated that Fides Media is open to suggestions and inclusion in the activities of the NUJ Anambra State Council, reaffirming the company’s readiness to work closely with the Union for mutual growth.

# The 116th Inaugural Lecture of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka has been rescheduled to hold on Thursday, 6th November, 2025.

The post-ponement, according to a release by the Organising Committee was as a result of the two weeks warning strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU.

To this end, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, on behalf of the Senate, Staff and Students of Nnamdi Azikiwe University cordially invites the general public to the 116th Inaugural Lecture of the University.

The Inaugural Lecture topic: “The ‘Justice’ of Judicial Injustice in Nigeria: Any Way Out of the Paradox?”, is to be delivered by Rev. Fr. Prof. Ikenga Kenneth Emeka Oraegbunam, a Professor of Law and Applied Jurisprudence, Faculty of Law, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.

Rev. Fr. Prof. Oraegbunam who hails from Nteje, Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State, Nigeria, and is also a Catholic Priest of Onitsha Archdiocese.

The event slated to hold at the University Auditorium will be chaired by the Acting Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Prof. Carol Arinze-Umobi, by 1.00pm.

# The Chairman of Njikoka LGA, Barr. Chinedu Ononiba, has charged the people of Abagana Ward III to stand firmly with APGA

Hon. Ononiba while speaking during the Njikoka Campaign Council visited the ward to canvass support for Prof. Chukwuma Soludo ahead of the November 8 election, reminded them that after the Governor completes his second term, it will be the rightful turn of Anambra Central Senatorial Zone to produce the next governor, urging them to vote massively for APGA to secure the future.

# Ahead of the November 8th 2025 governorship election, Governor Chukwuma Soludo, has called on the people of Oyi Local Government Area to come out en masse and vote in favour of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, at the

Governor Soludo made the call at the Oyi local government area headquarters, Nteje during a rally organized by the people to endorse him for a second term of four years.

According to the Governor who said that Oyi has been his strong base since 2021, they should speak again in the 320 polling units, stating that APGA is ready to work with the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to ensure that the votes will be counted and announced, as the party stands for a free, fair, transparent and credible election.

Former NBA Idemili Branch Chairmen, Sylvester N.S. Eze Esq and Chief Sir Ben Okoko Esq in their separate speeches noted that both the Law week theme and the seminar topics were thought-provoking and timely saying that the increase of lawyers being called to the Bar yearly has reduced the legal profession to a hustle.

SNS Eze who was a former Council of Legal Education Member said: “The theme is aimed at re channeling lawyers minds from a survival mentality to that of abundance. From barely eking out a living to making a comfortable living out of the proceeds of the legal profession.
