The Managing Director of Rojenny Stadium and Games villages, Oba in Idemili Local Government Area of Anambra, Rommy Ezeonwuka has been nominated for an award for his contributions to sports development in Nigeria.
This was contained in a Statement issued by SWAN @60 Media and Publicity Committee and signed by Chimezie Anaso and Hembadoon Orsar, Chairman and Secretary respectively on Monday.
A letter of nomination signed by Ikenna Okonkwo Secretary General of SWAN said Anosike was nominated for his contributions to the development of sports in Nigeria and Southeast in particular.
“The award is in recognition of your contributions towards our national sports promotion and development within the cycle of the last six decades.
“Thank you for making Nigeria great through sports, we hope this gesture would encourage you to do more for our great nation,” it said.
Angel Network News (ANN) gathered that
Ezeonwuka built the Rojenny facility from 1983 and completed it in 1986 as the first privately owned Olympic sports stadium in Nigeria for sporting excellence out of the forest Oba.
The stadium played host to both national league games at a time Anambra had Jasper United, Udoji United and Gabros FC all defunct, in the elite division and home ground for Nigeria club sides on Continental contest.
Clubs from other African countries including Algeria, Angola, Egypt, Morocco, and Cote d’Ivoire had played at the stadium during their away games to Nigerian clubs.
ANN recall that Rojenny Stadium was the incubation ground for the Kanu Nwankwo led Nigeria U-17 football team under Fanny Amun for almost two years before they stormed Japan in 1993 and stunned the world in one of the country’s best performances at that level.
Rojenny has one of the best tracks ground in Southeast even though it still lies underutilised.
The Jubilee and Award ceremony is scheduled to hold at the MKO Abiola Stadium Abuja, between October. 29 and October. 31st 2025.
