Former PDP national leader Chief Bode George has claimed that his children face employment discrimination in Nigeria because of his name, a statement that has ignited debate over influence, reputation, and opportunity in Nigerian hiring practices.
During a radio appearance on Nigeria Info FM 99.3, George said: “My children came back home from abroad, tried to get a job, but they can’t get a job because their name is Bode George.” He linked this to the broader frustrations experienced by many youths, stressing rampant unemployment and a system skewed against many with political affiliations.
George appealed to the government to establish a special fund for youth empowerment and micro-credit schemes, saying: “Graduates are floating, no future, no hope; non-graduates are doing nothing.”
He also took aim at the First Lady’s fundraising push for the National Library, suggesting that instead of public calls for donations, wealthy individuals and institutions should be mobilised to take responsibility.
