The Nigeria Police Force has announced the deployment of 45,000 officers for the upcoming Anambra State governorship election slated for November 8, 2025, as part of an intensified security plan to ensure peace.
Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, speaking at the meeting of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES), said that pre-election deployments will begin November 1, with tactical units conducting clearance operations to neutralize threats.
Egbetokun’s remarks, delivered via Abayomi Shogunle, Commissioner of Police for Special Intervention Squad, emphasised that only security agencies officially represented in ICCES — including the Police, DSS, NSCDC and the military — would partake in election day operations. “No vigilante group will be allowed to play any role in the electoral process,” he said.
The IGP added that movement restrictions will be imposed on polling day and all entry and exit points across Anambra will be manned to prevent disruptions.
In parallel, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, represented by the Director of Internal Security, cautioned political actors against violence and reiterated the federal government’s commitment to a secure environment. “We are engaging with political leaders … violence will not be tolerated,” he stated.
