The African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Sunday laid out an ambitious blueprint to topple the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections, vowing to harness public fury over insecurity and economic woes through unity and strategic alliances in a bid to reshape Nigeria’s political landscape.
Speaking to a massive crowd in Anyigba, Dekina district of Kogi East, party leaders decried the APC’s “gross incompetence” that has plunged the nation into reverse gear, promising a homegrown fix to propel Nigeria from poverty to prosperity without foreign handouts.
ADC’s North Central National Vice Chairman, Senator Tunde Ogbeha, fired the opening salvo, declaring the gathering a harbinger of triumph. “With what I have seen here today, it gives me great pleasure that ADC will no doubt secure the future of Kogi East and by extension the future of Kogi as a state,” Ogbeha said, underscoring the party’s self-reliance on national security.
He doubled down on the anti-APC rhetoric, adding: “Our party does not require a third party from any part of the world to come and tell us how to secure our country. ADC will secure the country in the best way possible. We feel your pains and we know your desires and our party will provide your desires for you.”
The strategy hinges on ironclad internal discipline and broad coalitions, mirroring the APC’s own playbook that felled the PDP in 2015. Alhaji Musa Ahmadu, ADC leader in Kogi West and a former state secretary, urged members to seize the moment: “We should not have doubt about this coalition. This is how APC took governance of the nation from PDP. If we are determined, this coalition will be possible and it will come as a surprise to Nigerians.”80d8e0
Former Kogi deputy governor Simon Achuba, now steering ADC efforts in the east, emphasised grassroots revival: “We have decided to adopt ADC to bring internal democracy to the party. ADC is a party that will prioritise the welfare, well-being, justice and the unity of our people in Kogi state.”6fba0d
Critics in the crowd, amplified by deputy national welfare secretary David Itopa representing Kogi Central, lambasted the APC for endangering lives and futures. “APC has become grossly incompetent and has put the country’s development on reverse gear. The people are no longer safe, our children’s education is in jeopardy. This can’t continue,” Itopa charged.c810ba
State chairman Kingsley Temitope Ogah projected presidential ambitions, calling for unwavering loyalty from youths and women to clinch victory nationwide. Ogbeha echoed the stakes, warning: “The next general elections will not only be for ADC, but for the people of Nigeria. If we do not indulge in anti-party activities, there is no reason why we cannot dislodge APC in Kogi state and Nigeria at large.”7f0b28
The event, swelling with supporters from across Kogi’s senatorial zones, signals mounting momentum for opposition forces amid APC fatigue over crumbling infrastructure and unfulfilled promises. Analysts see Kogi as a pivotal testing ground, where ADC’s push could ripple into a broader anti-incumbent wave if coalitions solidify.
