# The Anambra State Commissioner for Information and Value Reformation, Dr Law Mefor, along with the Commissioner for Culture, Entertainment and Tourism, Hon. Udoji Amedu, and the Chairman of the Non-Indigenous Welfare Association, Anambra State, Chief Great Ugwuoke, on Thursday, September 3, 2026, paid a courtesy visit to the newly deployed Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, at the Police Headquarters in Amawbia.
Addressing the CP, Dr. Mefor pledged the ministry’s support for his administration and sought collaboration on the state’s Value Reformation agenda.
He commended the progress made in security since Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo assumed office on March 17, 2022, noting that eight local government areas were then under siege.
Mefor said the Ministry of Information now has an added responsibility and mandate of value reformation and is building a “coalition of the willing” to drive it.
# Dr. Uche Nworah has called for the preservation of late Aiza Nwosu’s iconic mobile advertising vehicle, describing it as an important part of his identity and legacy.
Nworah, a media personality, said the advertising truck was once a familiar sight on the streets of Awka and other parts of Anambra State. He noted that beyond its commercial purpose, the vehicle became closely associated with Aiza’s creativity and public presence.
He suggested that the vehicle should be preserved and displayed in a museum or another suitable location in Awka. According to him, keeping the truck would provide a lasting reminder of Aiza’s life, creativity and impact on the community.
# The Anambra State Commissioner for Information and Value Reformation, Dr. Law Mefor, has described drivers as critical partners in the Soludo administration’s efforts to reform values and promote responsible citizenship across the state.
Mefor stated this when he received members of the Unified Drivers Welfare Association on a courtesy visit to his office in Awka. During the visit, the association decorated him as its Grand Patron.
Addressing the group, the commissioner said partnership with transport unions was critical to achieving the Solution Government’s mandate of value reformation in Anambra.
According to him, the proposal to partner with the ministry was “historic, timely and strategic,” stressing that reaching the grassroots with the message of value reformation would be difficult without the transport sector.
Mefor explained that the ministry was already working with other organisations and institutions, while a framework for value reformation was before the State Executive Council.
He linked the urgency of the initiative to rising insecurity, particularly the increasing cases of cult-related killings and activities in Awka South and Idemili North Local Government Areas.
# The Anambra State Police Command has sustained its intelligence-led and joint security operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks and violent non-state actors across the State, recording a significant operational breakthrough at Amiyi, Ogbaru Local Government Area.
The operation was carried out by a Joint Security Team comprising personnel of the Nigeria Police Force from the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu; Department of State Services (DSS); 302 Artillery Regiment, Onitsha; Nigerian Navy personnel from Ogbaru; and Agunachamba operatives from the community.
Acting on credible intelligence, the team trekked for about four hours through difficult terrain and dense palm forest before arriving at an identified camp suspected to be occupied by an armed criminal group.
On sighting the security personnel, the suspects opened fire, leading to a prolonged exchange of gunfire. At the end of the encounter, six suspected members of the armed group were neutralized, while others fled the area, with some reportedly sustaining gunshot injuries.
The operatives recovered two pump-action guns and charms from the camps. The identified camps and structures believed to be associated with the group were subsequently dismantled.
The operation, however, recorded the death of one security operative and injury to another when an explosive device suspected to have been planted in the area detonated. The injured operative is currently receiving medical attention in a hospital.
Reacting, the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, through a press release by SP. Ikenga Tochukwu, commended the courage, resilience and professionalism of the security personnel and community-based operatives who participated in the operation despite the difficult terrain and hostile environment.
The CP described the successful operation as a further demonstration of the importance of intelligence sharing, inter-agency cooperation and community support in confronting violent criminal elements and disrupting their operational bases.
He also commiserated with the family, colleagues and associates of the fallen security operative, while wishing the injured operative a speedy and full recovery.
The Commissioner reassured residents of the State that the Command, in collaboration with other security agencies and relevant stakeholders, will continue to sustain intelligence-led operations aimed at dismantling criminal camps, recovering illegal arms and preventing violent groups from establishing operational footholds in any part of Anambra State.
The Command therefore urges members of the public to remain vigilant and continue to provide timely and credible information to security agencies, as community cooperation remains critical to sustaining the peace and security of the State.
# A Citizen advocate, Prince Chris Azor, has called for Nigeria’s fiscal reform accountability framework to move beyond government disclosures to independent verification of public finance claims, particularly figures linked to fuel subsidy savings and revenue distribution.
Azor, who is the President of the International Peace and Civic Responsibility Centre (IPCRC), made the call in a public statement in response to a Business a.m. article.
He argued that while the newspaper’s analysis rightly questioned the assumption that reported subsidy savings automatically translate into available public funds, the more critical issue was whether the government’s figures had been independently verified.
According to him, claims that ₦15.8 trillion was saved from subsidy removal and subsequently shared among the three tiers of government require greater scrutiny.
He noted that the reported distribution of ₦5.43 trillion to the Federal Government, ₦6.52 trillion to states and ₦3.88 trillion to local governments appeared to assume that the entire subsidy savings entered the Federation Account before being allocated.
Azor also raised concerns over local government finances, arguing that it is misleading to suggest councils have benefited from increased allocations when many remain unable to demonstrate independent control over those funds.
# As part of the broader efforts towards building a greater university industry collaboration, Vice Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Professor Bond Ugochukwu Stanley Anyaehie, has visited ZITELLE Group at its company headquarters in Amansea, Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State, seeking to strengthen mutual collaboration between the university and the company for the benefit of students and the institution.
Professor Anyaehie made the visit as part of efforts to explore strategic partnerships with companies within the university’s environment and create opportunities that would impact positively on the university development with benefits to all stakeholders.
During the visit, the Vice Chancellor emphasized the importance of building a mutually beneficial relationship between the university and ZITELLE Group. He called for collaboration in areas including building and development of student hostels, provision of opportunities for Industrial Training (IT), and other initiatives capable of making life more comfortable and productive for students of Nnamdi Azikiwe University.
He noted that stronger partnerships between the university and companies within its immediate environment would not only benefit the institution but would also provide students with greater access to practical experience, professional exposure and opportunities to connect classroom learning with industry.
The Chief Executive Officer of ZITELLE Group, Chief Okechukwu Dominic Anolue, who received the Vice Chancellor and his team, expressed his willingness to explore areas of partnership with the university.
Chief Anolue, however, raised concerns about the sustainability of agreements that may be affected by changes in university administration, stressing the need for continuity beyond the tenure of the current leadership.
# The management of the Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS) and the leadership of the Building Materials International Market, Ogidi, have opened discussions on a stronger partnership aimed at promoting the market, highlighting the quality of products sold there and creating greater public awareness about its contribution to the building and construction sector.
The development followed a courtesy visit by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of ABS to the market, where he held discussions with the President General of the Building Materials International Market, Ogidi, Chief Jude Nwankwo, and other market stakeholders.
The ABS helmsman described the Building Materials International Market as one of the biggest and most important markets in Anambra State and the Southeast, stressing the need to expand its visibility and tell its story to a wider audience.
He said the visit was driven by the desire to explore areas where ABS and the market could work together, particularly through sustained media programming and promotional initiatives that would enable the market to communicate directly with the public.
Responding, the President General of the Building Materials International Market, Ogidi, Chief Nwankwo, welcomed the ABS delegation and described the visit as a positive development and commended the ABS management for taking the initiative to engage the market, describing the state owned broadcaster as an important partner in the development of Anambra.
Chief Nwankwo explained that many of the major building materials sold in the market are produced by established Nigerian manufacturers, citing leading cement manufacturers and further disclosed that the market has established an internal committee focused on the standard of goods sold by traders, with collaboration involving the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON).
# East Ocean Filling Station has been commissioned for services at Oye Neni by the Mayor of Anaocha, Honourable Rome Ibekwe.
Upon assumption of office, Ibekwe held security meetings with Anaocha stakeholders to ensure a conducive and secured local Government Area for all to live in, which yielded positive results and paved the way for the actualization of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s Aku Luo Uno mantra.
Commissioning the facility, Ibekwe said it was a welcome development, as it aligns with one of the major objectives of the Governor Chukwuma Soludo administration, which encourages Ndi Anambra to think home and invest as part of the ongoing development in the state under the Aku Luo Uno mantra.
Honourable Ibekwe noted that indeed, Ndi Anaocha have seen the need to contribute to the progress of their area, saying that the mega filling station has brought empowerment, a sense of belonging and relief from the hardship of accessing fuel.
He called on other affluent individuals to emulate the gesture and reiterated his administration’s commitment to strengthening the security architecture of Anaocha.
# Nawfia Community Secondary School has elected a new executive of its Parent Teacher Association (PTA) following a peaceful and well attended meeting of parents, teachers and other stakeholders.
The election was conducted in a transparent and orderly manner, with participants commending the peaceful atmosphere that characterised the exercise and expressing confidence in the newly elected officers.
The new executive comprises Chief Vincent Odumegwu as Chairman, Mrs Ngozi Okonkwo as Vice Chairman, Mrs Chizoba Nwafor as Treasurer, and Mr Odo Miracle as Public Relations Officer (PRO)/Provost.
In his acceptance speech, the newly elected Chairman, Chief Odumegwu, thanked members for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to work closely with the school management, parents and teachers to improve the school’s learning environment.
Mrs Okonkwo, the Vice Chairman, described the election as peaceful and urged parents to remain committed to supporting the academic and moral development of the students.
Also speaking, the Treasurer, Mrs Nwafor, assured members that the association’s finances would be managed with integrity, transparency and accountability.
The PRO/Provost, Mr Miracle, pledged to strengthen communication between the PTA, parents and the school community to encourage greater participation in programmes and initiatives aimed at promoting the growth and development of the school.
# Fashion enthusiasts in Anambra State have called on governors across the South-East to emulate Professor Chukwuma Soludo’s support and patronage of locally made products, saying such initiatives can give greater visibility to indigenous creativity and strengthen local businesses.
They made the call while reflecting on the impact of government patronage on local fashion, particularly the use of Nigerian-made fabrics, clothing, and footwear by public office holders.
For men’s fashion designer Ebuka Agbo, whose brand is Emax Classic Creation, Governor Soludo’s consistent patronage of locally made attire is an encouragement to designers working to promote indigenous fashion.
Agbo, who describes himself as a product of youthful skill, says the Governor’s appearance in locally made outfits, including Akwete, sends a strong message about the quality and value of Nigerian-made products, and he urged other governors in the South-East to emulate the initiative by patronising locally made fashion and creating platforms that would give indigenous designers and artisans greater visibility.
Also speaking, shoemaker Osemina Otaru, whose brand is Angelo Jude, says opportunities created by government for local producers to showcase their products can significantly boost their businesses, recalling his participation in a government-organised trade fair in 2024, and describing the platform as an opportunity to display his products, reach potential customers, and gain greater exposure.
He appreciates Governor Soludo for providing such opportunities for local businesses and expresses hope that the initiative will receive continued support and greater visibility, allowing more practitioners to benefit, adding that sustained government patronage and exposure will encourage local designers and artisans to improve their products, attract more young people into skill acquisition, and create sustainable livelihoods.
They called on other South-East Governors to adopt similar measures, stressing that promoting locally made products should go beyond special events to become a sustained commitment to supporting indigenous businesses, and also expressed appreciation to Governor Soludo for using his position to promote local products, while urging continued support and greater visibility for designers, shoemakers, and other artisans across the region.
