Anambra Chief Judge Ensure Timely Justice, Tackles Prolonged Detention Of Inmates

The Anambra State Chief Judge, Chief Justice Onochie Anyachebelu has discharged six inmates, grants bail to seven others.

The Chief Judge represented by Hon. Justice Nweze, during a visit at Onitsha Correctional Centre said its a routine exercise carried out every year to decongest the prison.

“The visit is part of the judiciary’s efforts to ensure timely justice and reduce prolonged detention in line with the Anambra State Administration of Criminal Justice Law, 2022, with officials reviewing case files of inmates held on remand and those whose trials have been delayed.

In his speech, the Controller of Onitsha Correctional Centre, Mr. Ike Anselem, thanked the judiciary for the visit, stating that it gives inmates hope that their cases are being looked into.

Anselem maintained that the Correctional Service will continue to work with the judiciary to ensure that inmates, especially those awaiting trial, receive fair and timely attention.

Angel Network News (ANN) gathered that the visit is part of the judiciary’s annual routine to review inmates’ cases at the centre.
