# In a clear signal of the state’s improving investment climate, a new Chinese owned restaurant, HUATING, has been officially commissioned in Awka.
The event saw the state’s Deputy Governor, Dr. OnyekaChukwu Ibezim, reinforce the administration’s commitment to making Anambra a secure and attractive hub for entrepreneurs.
Speaking at the ceremony on behalf of Governor Chukwuma Soludo. Dr. Ibezim highlighted the significance of the opening, stating it was proof that the state’s investment climate is gaining confidence from both local and foreign entrepreneurs.
”What we are witnessing today is the direct outcome of our administration’s commitment to securing Anambra and opening the doors for genuine investors,” Ibezim declared.
“We will continue to make the state safe, stable, and attractive to those who wish to contribute to its growth.” He added.
# Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 presidential election and two-term Governor of Anambra State, Mr Peter Obi has paid a solidarity visit to his predecessor and immediate past minister of Labour and Productivity, Dr. Chris Ngige following last Wednesday’s attack on the latter’s convoy.
Ngiges convoy ran into a group of hoodlums operating on the Nkpor – Nnobi road and came under attack. Although the former governor was not in the convoy, one passer-by was shot and killed and one of his police details was also shot and his gun and uniform taken away by the assailants. He has been operated upon and is making a steady recovery.
Upon reading the news, Obi typical of him drove to Alor, Idemili Local Government home of Ngige to pay a solidarity visit to his once political foe.
The two went into a closed door session where Ngige shared moments that led to the incident and prayed for the repose of the dead victim while wishing the wounded, which included his police orderly and a store owner, quick recovery.
Addressing the press shortly after the closed door meeting, Ngige confirmed that there was a casualty in the shooting incident.
On his part, Obi said he was in Alor to express his solidarity with Ngige. “I’m happy he’s safe,” Obi said. “My own is just to thank God he’s safe and his security people are safe,” Obi added.
Obi also expressed happiness that the injured were quickly taken to the hospital and that Ngige being a physician also helped their recovery process as he directed the evacuation and treatment of the wounded from his village home as “doctors in Anambra State are on strike.”
# The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) RS5.3 Awka responded to a fatal crash on the Awka–Onitsha Road at the Nawfia axis.
Two vehicles were involved: a yellow-and-black tipper truck with registration number FGG 21XV and a red 608 bus registration XQ 398 AA).
The total number of people involved was 32, comprising 9 male adults and 23 female adults.
According to Anambra FRSC Spokesperson, SRC. Margaret Onabe,
” The collision resulted in six fatalities—
two male adults and four female adults. 5 female adults sustained injuries, and 21 people were rescued unhurt.
Reacting, Sector Commander and Corps Commander Bridget Asekhauno said:
“This tragic incident is a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of reckless driving. We extend our deepest sympathies to the families of the victims and urge all motorists to respect traffic laws, avoid aggressive overtaking, and prioritize safety for all road users.”
# A yet-to-be-identified lady was shot dead while recording an attack on the convoy of Chris Ngige, former Anambra governor and ex-minister of labour and employment.
Fred Chukwuelobe, Ngige’s former spokesperson, said the gunmen ambushed the convoy along the Nkpor-Nnobi road, Idemili north LGA of Anambra, on Wednesday.
Chukwuelobe said Ngige was not in the convoy when the incident happened. He added that a shop owner who raced to find out what was happening was also shot, but he only lost a lot of blood and will be operated upon soon to remove the bullets.
He said that the shop owner is expected to make a full recovery from the gun wound.
# As part of activities marking his sixtieth birthday celebration, the former National Publicity Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party, Chief Olisa Metuh, has donated millions of naira, foodstuffs and toiletries to children in an orphanage at the Diocesan Church Centre, Nnewi, the home of retired Rev. Fathers at Ndimgbu, and inmates at the Nnewi Correctional Centre.
Speaking to journalists after making the donations, Chief Metuh, who explained that the gesture is his way of thanking God for His guidance, mercy and protection over his life, urged wealthy individuals in Anambra State and beyond to always give to the less privileged in society as a way of showing gratitude to God for His blessings.
On his part, the Chairman of Seahorse Lubricant Company, Chief Ebuka Onunkwo, who identified with Chief Metuh on his sixtieth birthday celebration, thanked God for the life of the celebrant, whom he described as a great asset to humanity, calling on well-to-do individuals in Anambra State to emulate his philanthropic gesture by touching lives.
# The President General (PG) of Urum Development Union in Awka North LGA of Anambra State, Sir Felix Oranye has appealed to Governor Chukwuma Soludo to urgently intervene on the dilapidated major road linking Urum with Isuaniocha, Mgbakwu, Amanuke, Ugbene, Awba-Ofemmili and Ugbenu
The Urum President General emphasized that the road is the major access route used by residents and neighbouring communities to reach the popular Oye-Urum Market, which is now experiencing low patronage due to the poor condition of the road, noting that reconstructing the road would greatly assist farmers in evacuating their farm produce to other parts of the state, thereby helping to reduce food scarcity.
Sir. Oranye praised the Governor for various community projects completed in Awka North and beyond, including the Okpuno–Isuaniocha–Urum–Achalla Road.
The PG while congratulating Soludo on his reelection, in the just-concluded Anambra governorship election held on 8 November 2025, describing it as a true reflection of the will of Ndi Anambra and an outcome that will enable the Governor to consolidate his achievements in the state.
The Community leader expressed delight over Governor Soludo’s victory and commended the people of the state for their resolve to return him to office to continue the good work already ongoing across Anambra, and urged the Governor to reciprocate the confidence reposed in him by remaining focused and committed to selfless service to the people.
# The Anambra State Chief Judge, Chief Justice Onochie Anyachebelu has discharged six inmates, grants bail to seven others.
The Chief Judge represented by Hon. Justice Nweze, during a visit at Onitsha Correctional Centre said its a routine exercise carried out every year to decongest the prison.
“The visit is part of the judiciary’s efforts to ensure timely justice and reduce prolonged detention in line with the Anambra State Administration of Criminal Justice Law, 2022, with officials reviewing case files of inmates held on remand and those whose trials have been delayed.
In his speech, the Controller of Onitsha Correctional Centre, Mr. Ike Anselem, thanked the judiciary for the visit, stating that it gives inmates hope that their cases are being looked into.
Anselem maintained that the Correctional Service will continue to work with the judiciary to ensure that inmates, especially those awaiting trial, receive fair and timely attention.
